The Lyrics

Hello from Mr. MIA. It's good to be writing again amidst my changing surroundings. This one's for all the Halo nuts out there, and hopefully the rest of you will at least get a taste of some Voltaire music.

If you want to learn more about Voltaire as a performer/songwriter, check out this website: www.Voltaire.net. The mp3 that I used to create this parody is available for download on the following page:

When your girl-friend is too busy
And life's a bit too much
Just go and play this game all day,
Save the world and such.
To your homework, it's a demon
To your X-Box it's a prize
But call it by any name
Any way it's just a game

It's the gun that you drop
It's the reason you co-op
It's the sniper you don't find
"Till he gets you from behind
It's the charging of your shield
It's the reason you dual-wield
It's the ghost you can see
But you won't steal one from me

And it's addicting playing Halo
From war, there's no relief
Now tell me, who's your "Master Chief'?
Yes it's addicting playing Halo
And I think you might succeed
But prob-ly not 'cause you just lost the lead

It's the cursing that you do
When a Cupcake's killing you
Many ways to camp and trick
Many ways to be a d*ck-to your friends
It's not fair, when they're waiting round the corner
It's a game, so get grenading
'Cause there's aliens invading

Oh, it's addicting playing Halo
The physics it defies
Your guy flips things ten-times his size
Yes it's addicting playing Halo
You have aliens to bleed
But still you suck 'cause you just lost the lead

I pledge my allegiance, to X-Box Live
And I promise when it is released
I'll never go to sleep, Lord Master-Chief
Has never seen a soldier quite like me
Not only does his job, but has a killing spree.

It's the loading of your clip
It's your favorite hiding spot
It's destroying that drop ship
When surrounded by red dots
It's the foe you put to bed
When your sword sight turns to red
It's the launcher that you grip
Did you run out? Just pistol whip

And it's addicting playing Halo
To kill is just so fun
While perched atop a turret gun
You do it all while playing Halo
But I think we all agreed
That you will suck until you get the lead
I would move and put on speed
And good job soldier, you just gained the lead
But more training you will need
'Cause once again your team has lost the lead

It gets so lonely playing Halo
Now I ponder killing you
Just like those guys from Red v. Blue
I get no love while playing Halo
I'm lying though my teeth!
I'm never lonely when I have the lead

How have I missed you? Let me count the ways...

(this might take a while)

Congratulations on finishing this one, Mister. I, of course, understand -83% of it...but alas...I love it anyway...=) You'll have to teach me how to play Halo one of these days...so I can giggle at this brilliance with validity...

I love it...... good job with getting it that close to the original. Can't wait to start singing it with everyone.

(SOTM) Good one.

(SOTM) Thanks for loading the mp3...this Voltaire seems like a lot of fun...sounds like Danny Elfman in a CorpseBride kinda mood, or a lighter Nick Cave. With your parody, a little too much usage of the original lyrics, but I liked it just the same. I'm going to recommend it (the parody and Voltaire) to friends and family 554.

(SOTM) Liked the sounds, but didn't KTOS or performer. And sadly have less than zero knowledge of Halo. But thasnks for introducing me to Voltaire

(SOTM) the link didn't work for me (URL not found) for some reason - I DKTOS, or anything about Halo, so I'm a little out of the orbit for this, but it was an easy read 2nz, thanks to the smooth pacing

It's a bit late, but as some of you may already know, the link provided at the top no longer works. For those in SOTM, I posted a current link to the song on the voting thread and you can get it there.

SOTM - Ah, sorry my friend... DKTOS. I'm not a gamer myself, but I have played Halo before.

Cool original song, 2nz; thanks for the intro. I'll have to check out more Voltaire. I've never played Halo, alas, but I can appreciate lines like "I pledge my allegiance to X-Box Live" - and "a Cupcake's killing you" makes it all sound rather tempting. I actually quit video games cold turkey years ago when I realized what a slick job they do of sucking the hours away. Now I have tons of extra time that I can spend doing more productive stuff like, uh, this.

(SOTM) I downloaded that not once but twice and still cannot find the "Temporary Folder" it is going into. Never played Halo either but can relate *somewhat* as I poured a monumental amount of time into EQ. Good rhymes and gratz for the first Voltaire submission here.

(SOTM) I have never played Halo but, have had addictions to some video games. Like Spaff said above, they just drained the time away and, there were other things that needed to be done. Good job here though.555

(SOTM) Very well written, you covered your topic thoroughly. Particularly like 'Did you run out? Just pistol whip'... usually my game stragey when playing nerdy game-addict friends in shoot 'em ups.

(SOTM) DKTOS and DK Halo, but reads well.
Johnny D - October 28, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) I think "Did you run out? Just pistol whip" sums up the gaming experience pretty succinctly!

Hey, I too thought of Nick Cave. Even though I only know that one song of his from "Scream". But I liked the original, checked out the website (like his animation too). And, oh yeah, good job with the parody, although I have to ditto what all the other old geezers are saying about not playing video games. But very interesting stuff.
Arwen - October 30, 2005 - Report this comment
SOTM...I am totally NOT an old geezer...but I have to join the 'I don't really get it' crowd. I once was a fan on video games...but anymore, the newer/more high-tech/more lifelike the game, the less I seem to like it. Who in the hell thought that Mortal Kombat needed to be in 3-D? That just confuses me. And if there are moves more complicated than BACK BACK B...you've lost me. Sorry.

Okay, rant over. And my request for some private lessons still stands.

(SOTM) They made a movie from Doom, what's the chance of a Halo movie??

heh heh, 10 votes total. So I started out with 3 votes initially and in a tournament with 24 entrants where vote/comment is mandatory, I can still only muster 7 more votes, and that's with a download-able copy of the mp3 to boot. I give up. Logic no longer works. (Thoughtful pause) Sorry all you who end up back here, just had to vent a bit. Rabble, rabble and all that.

Anyhow, THANKS to everyone who came out and commented and did their best to make sense of my young-blood First-Person-Shooter salute here. Hope some of you got turned on to Voltaire as your comments suggest. See you all on the flip side.

...And I'm wrong already. Vote/comment ISN'T mandatory, but that won't stop me from suing for the personal emotional damage of watching the majority of a tournament turnout NOT leave a vote for me song :cP.

Sorry to re-iterate, but I really do appreciate the comments in and of themselves and also those who took the time to review my stuff and vote as well.

I finally got the MP3 to download. Very cool song. Got a bit hung up on singing the parody to it b/c Voltaire's style is pretty new to me. Nothing enough to damage your score though.
