The Lyrics

This song is about employees who work for large companies. By law, companies who give out 500 (or more) layoff notices (slips) are supposed to give employees 60 day notices. This was the case for the company I worked for during the 1990’s.
When I wake up, well I know I'm gonna be,
I'm gonna be the man who gets laid-off by you
When I go out, yeah I know I'm gonna be,
I'm gonna be the man who gets fired up by you
If I get drunk, well I know I'm gonna be,
I'm gonna be the man who gets kicked out by you
And if I walk by, yeah I know I'm gonna be,
I'm gonna be the man who gets Pink Slipped from you

CHORUS:
Now they will give 500 slips,
And they will give 500 more,
Till every loy-al employee,
Is escorted right out that door

Unemployment!, Unemployment!,
Unemployment!, Unemployment!
Da-da-da dun-diddle un-diddle
un-diddle da da dah!
Unemployment!, Unemployment!,
Unemployment!, Unemployment!
Da-da-da dun-diddle un-diddle
un-diddle da da dah!

When I see you, yes I know I'm gonna be,
I'm gonna be the man who gets pissed-off from you
And when I stress out, yeah I know I'm gonna be,
I'm gonna be the man who gets stressed out by you
If I don’t leave (if I don’t leave), well I know I'm gonna be,
I'm gonna be the man who gets kicked out by you
And when I walk by (when I walk by), yes I know I'm gonna be,
I'm gonna be the man who gets laid-off from you…
I'm gonna be the man who gets laid-off by you

CHORUS:
Now they will give 500 slips,
And they will give 500 more,
Til’ every hapless employee,
Is escorted right out that door

Unemployment!, Unemployment!,
Unemployment!, Unemployment!
Da-da-da dum-diddle un-diddle un-diddle da da dah! Yeah!
Unemployment!, Unemployment!,
Unemployment!, Unemployment!
Da-da-da dum-diddle un-diddle un-diddle da da dah!

Unemployment!, Unemployment!,
Unemployment!, Unemployment!
Da-da-da dum-diddle un-diddle un-diddle da da dah! Yeah!
Unemployment!, Unemployment!,
Unemployment!, Unemployment!
Da-da-da dum-diddle un-diddle un-diddle da da dah!

Now they will give 500 slips,
And they will give 500 more,
Till every laid-off employee,
Is escorted right out that door…

i have LOVED, LOVED this song since hearing it the first time it came out. It is absolutely perfect for this type of parody. March, march, right out the door. We are living in scary times, but it got you fives!!!
