The Lyrics

recent news story: "Runaway Cow Escapes from Jamaica, Queens Slaughterhouse"
Woke up in the middle of the night
Seemed like something wasn’t right
Thought I smelled a barbeque burning
Was I a steak that could use a little turning?

Thinking ‘bout being turned into meat
So many burgers people want to eat
Promised myself I wouldn't weep
Not safe to go back to sleep

It seems no one can help me now
A helpless cow
Just chow for thou
This time I have really led myself astray

Runaway cow never going back
Don’t want my ribs on a rack
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Looking for a little dairy air

Can you help me remember how to graze
To reminisce on happier days
How on earth did I get so jaded
Don't want to be marinated

Wanna go where butchers never go
Would even be better on skid row
I may possess a tiny brain
But I can recognize a cow-blood stain

Everything is cut and slash
Pack and ship, corned beef hash
Somehow I just don't believe it

Runaway cow never going back
Don’t want my ribs on a rack
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Looking for a little dairy air

Need a plan for a runaway cow
Where to go? What to do now?
Gotta get away, take what I need
Get my buddies, gonna start a stampede

Runaway cow never going back
Don’t want my ribs on a rack
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Looking for a little dairy air

Runaway cow never comin' back
Runaway cow, nobody’s snack
Runaway cow, freedom for a while
Runaway from the supermarket aisle

This almost sounds like a pro-vegetarian song. Given that Soul Asylum brought up social awareness, this song might seem appropo.

Rob beat me to the easy pun(ch) with his comment. More chorus variations would have been sweeter, but I liked this very much.
