The Lyrics

Just found this site and I have some parodies I wrote back in the 90s I'm uploading. NOTE: This parody was written in the 90s when the couples references were still together and none of the celebrities mentioned had yet died.
Hey it's the truth, I used to follow Dr. Ruth
She taught the world to think on sexuality
I used to walk with her from a bar out to her car
She didn't know that I was was there cause I tried to be real discrete

But I did not attack and every night I'd drop back
I'd buy a beer six-pack then go home and toss it back
As for the way I'd spend my day I'd follow Demi and Bruce
But ya know that's Sunday and come Monday it was Kidman and Cruise

I sick of waiting around, I'm breaking into the house
And then if they're not around, I'll look and see what I've found
And since I follow them maybe I'm bizarro
But when all's said and done I might as well be stalking them for fun

Twenty-five years I've worked to sneak up and to peek up
In a window at a bimbo with my perfect technique
And for thirty bucks now you can read about it
I think you had better just get my newsletter
There's some successes, some addresses (Some are guesses),
And some tips and tricks for you would-be obsessors
Like DeNiro sort of looks Pacino-y
So if your hobby is Bobby then the birthmark is key

I'm sick of waiting around, I'm breaking into the house
And then if they're not around, I'll look and see what I've found
And when I follow I feel like I'm Apollo
But now that I've begun I might as well be stalking them for fun

It's a tough thing when I follow writer Steven King
No one sees what Pavarotti's like after he sings
And I see Nolte and Spike Lee and also Eddie Murphy
Mr. Wizard is to me a guy from New York City
So just sit back, kick back, and browse the magazine rack
I'm closing in on Robert "Unsolved Mysteries" Stack
Better make your way before the guard closes the gate
You need to be there when Madonna has a visit from David Spade

I sick of waiting around, I'm breaking into the house
And then if they're not around, I'll look and see what I've found
And since I follow them maybe I'm bizarro
But when all's said and done I might as well be stalking them for fun
I might as well be stalking them for fun
I might as well be stalking them for fun
I might as well be stalking them for fun
I might as well be stalking them for fun

This song, while quite ubiquitous, is really difficult to pace due to those rambling verses. You almost nailed it. How is being like Apollo like being a stalker--didn't get that line. Too bad Pavarotti and Mr. Wizard are dead...makes your stalker even creepier. Don't take this criticism wrong, K, I really liked the effort you gave on the whole thing. Do some more!

Thanks Agrimorfee, I agree about the Apollo line, for sure. I wrote this probably 10 years ago and that stood out when I re-read it. But I made the decision not to re-edit these and just to post them. Thanks again for the kind comments and the thoughtful criticism!

I'm not nearly as tough as Aggy, Kagendo (Kaggy?;-))....I've always wanted to parody this song, and when I do, I'll remember how well you did it. Top stuff. 555
