The Lyrics

As some may be aware, I retired Below Average Dave. Honestly, I did so realistically long before I made it official. My DJ career took off. Dancing DJ Dave has been in existence since 2008, but not a pen name I started using for parody until recently. I used to use AmIRight as an escape from reality, and I met a friend that few know what he meant to me because our friendship wasn't really made public knowledge, cause why would it be. I will explain further in the bottom comments but, it felt like the only appropriate name to write this likely last parody under the penship of Below Average Dave even though it is retired, It's the name I used at that time, so I miss you man, I apologize that I fell out of touch, but I never stopped caring about ya, what you did for me and the heart you had was noticed. I respect Malcom's accomplishment for AmIRight, but it was you Red Ant that made me feel loved here, made me want to stay here. Even though we hadn't been as close in your last few years of life, you never did leave my mind.
When I was here before
You sort saved my life
A hard rocking angel
but today I cry

I told you my secrets
and you told me yours
Your friendship was special
You were f****in special

You were no creep
and we're all weirdos
How the hell'd you pass from here?
Cause you belonged here

I'll feel all the hurt
I let you take control
I trusted you blindly
Cause you had a wondrous soul

and yes I have noticed
That you're not around
and thus I went diggin'
found horror while diggin'

I miss my friend
I miss my weirdo
Didn't care that I'm a queer
Or that I was lost there

You, got me out the dooor
You got me out
of hell, hell, hell, hell
Hell

It's cause of you I'm happy
This new life I've got
Wish I told you how special
How you're so damn special

You're still my friend
I'm going to miss you
Wish you were f*****in here
Cause you belong here
Cause you belong here
I never commented on his parody of this song, but it was among the very first I read to understand him. It was also a song he turned to when we went to karaoke nights as friends. So here's a sliver of why Red Ant meant so much to me, and how I came across the fact he's been dead for three years. I joined AmIright back a long time ago and released a backlog of writings dating back to my 8th year of life. Some of the dark themes caught Red Ant's attention. He messaged me, and we sorta became penpals of sorts. At the time I was living in Tampa and I was in a situation that was utter hell. An utter hell that lead to suicidal thoughts and situations I don't think I am comfortable posting publicly. Red Ant came down to visit me in Tampa, knowing only the slight details I gave him and while he was down there with me, we went to the liquor store and had a few nights of karaoke parodies, video games, and just being goof balls. At some point during our little vacation, I opened up and told him why I was the way I was, showed him what I was going through, and he opened back up to me. Upon returning home, despite being a heterosexual married man, he got me out of Tampa. He saved my life. Jack, or as you knew him: Red Ant saved my life. Since moving to his hometown, I moved a little further East and have built a little mini empire and largely left my past behind to the best of my ability. Somewhere along the line, I lost touch. Jack somewhat secluded and in December 2018, he passed away. The details of that are no one's business and although I now know the details to some extent, I will not post them or share them. Jack "Red Ant" Fletcher was a very special person with a huge heart and a beautiful soul. I will miss him dearly, I know not many will see this, as many of the people who were around during my heyday or his rarely, or no longer, write. Still, I felt I needed to do this. I went searching to catch up with Jack when both my first landlord in my new hometown mentioned him and another parodist friend from my hey day I hold dear, Matthias, brought up his name on one of my new parodies under the penname Dancing DJ Dave on YouTube. To say the least, finding his obituary was the last thing I expected to find. But the phone number I had saved from him wasn't working so I had to dig. So, though it's late, I will miss you my friend. I'll never forget the difference you made in my life. Rest In Peace buddy. If the friends I've made over my years here, especially those I've met in person such as Matthias and Jeff Reuben, see this. Feel free to hit me up. While I get wrapped up in my professional career, I never have forgotten y'all. I miss you, and I don't want another friend to pass and me not realize it until way after the fact. RIP Red Ant! 1975-2018

He was very generous with comments and funny remarks and feedback in general on everyone's parodies, hence obviously also an important driving force for Song Of The Month that kept that thing rolling for so many of us. I remember we kinda bonded online over the grunge band Alice In Chains and I introduced him to Sweden's Drain STH in the same genre. This was during my own most productive years (at least quantity-wise) here and I almost went to met you guys and some others when you (I suppose it was mostly the two of you) tried to set up that first (and as far as I know the only one ever) Amiright convention in Florida. R.I.P.

Aw man Dave! That is an incredible thing for you to share with us all. Thank you. I am saddened to hear of his passing too, though I did not have that personal connection that you were so priviliged to take. Glad to also know that you are in fine spirits with your current persona and endeavors. Happy New Year to you. (agrimorfee@hotmail.com)

Thank you very much Peter and Agrimorfee. It caught me really off guard, and I didn't know a more appropriate way to honor his legacy and what he did for me than this. Alice in Chains was huge with him in person too, I think I could safely call it his favorite band:)

Jack was a friend of mine too. I remember when he came to visit me when he was in Cleveland. He really wanted to go to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame but it was closed that day SO we ended up going to a Guitar Center and he helped me find a mic so I could start recording parodies. He did all he could despite the fact that I can’t hold a note in a paper bag

That's the thing about Jack though, he just really liked seeing people happy. Whatever motivated him to do things like that. . .it was beautiful. A lot of people aren't aware that he was as active out of the light as he was, it's why I felt compelled to tribute him upon learning he had passed. I miss you too buddy, that crazy Florida AIR conference was a lot of fun

Wow, I've been meaning to search for all the great parody writers I "met" here from back around 2004-2005 just to see how the scene looks now in a social media oriented scene and the first name that popped up in my mind was Red Ant...the last thing I expected was to find he's been dead for a while...I had a very brief and superficial interaction with him through comments on my frankly average at best parodies but he always found a way to praise whatever little was there to praise and offer constructive (and friendly) criticism whenever needed. I really, really liked him and I was hoping to perhaps connect with him beyond this site's comments and tell him how much his friendly comments helped this at the time young man's (I was probably 17-18 yo) confidence, as a Non native English speaker I was always quite self-conscious about my parodies but he always made me feel like I belonged here, not to mention his parodies were top notch. I am truly, truly sad to learn of his passing, I feel part of my youth is gone and I'm not in the least surprised to learn he was as positive, kind and helpful in real life as he was here, I'll do my best to raise my children to such standard. May he rest in peace.
