The Lyrics

I'm at badave.com . . .minus my recordings now unfortunately, which you can still find at Soundclick at least for now. Want to hear this one? Go to The Mad Music Archive where some major recording parodists have caught wind of my plight and are stepping up efforts, there you can vote for my song to make the DT-Top 20, for the first time ever I haven't posted a song directly to my Soundclick account upon recording, because I really need this one to do well for personal reasons, if you have the time, I'd really appreciate any votes you can get.
There were parodists before
Who recorded just like I
But now I've been stifled
Still I will not cry
My site they came after
Said I can stick around
But I'd have to pay them
Can't afford to pay them

Yes now ASCAP
Wants my money
But I am running short on rent. . .
Wallet's full of lent

They don't care 'bout my words
or that my stuff's not sold
I must have their license
That's what I have been told
Don't want to go to court,
don't have cash around
Hope they don't back charge me
I hope they just leave me

'Cause they're ASCAP
Have so much power
Why'd they single me out here
My site was so small here

Ooh ooh

I'm hobby-less again
My fun's run out
No fun, fun fun fuuuuuuuuuun
Dooooooooooonnnnnnnne

It's what had made me happy
My site got too big
I thought my stuff's crappy
Guess it's not that crappy

But I won't weep
I won't cry no
The day the music died is here!
McLean was right dear
McLean was right dear

Anger has made some great songwriting...here's another example. Watch out Dave, you might become a minor celebrity from this situation. Soldier on!!

Good luck fighting ASCAP! Remember that something good can come out of a lousy situation like this, so hang in there!

I heard about your plight with ASCAP and your website. This situation really sucks! This is worse than WMG pulling some music videos and songs under the Warner label off of YouTube! They can't do this to you! Your website is the best ever and your parody recordings rock! I was on your website and I went nuts at the fact that your recordings were pulled off! But I will listen to them at Soundclick, at least. Like everyone said, just hang in there. Great parody you wrote like always.

Thanks for fighting for all of us, Dave. What a bunch of CR*P. Hang in there.

I signed your petition and echo all above comments, and I am optimistic about ASCAP losing their court battle since parody IS fair use, unlike plagiarizing songs, and as a labor union of sorts, I don't give them the light of day except for badmouthing them and what they do, as with all other unions and what they do. Thanks for fighting for me, and I try to use mostly oldies songs for my parodies since they don't seem to fall under the tomfoolery and wrath of the ASCAP. 5s and the best of luck with this cr@ppy situation.

You're fighting this battle, but I'm right by your side because I think that Ass-Crap is a bunch of bull and they can't enforce rules to broadside of a barn... Great parody, great recording as I told you the other day. Now go and check out my Katy Perry parody.

Thank you everyone, I really am trying to work something out over there, still hopeful that they don't try to make me pay because music 'was' on my site, then I may have no choice but court because I don't have the $340 in licensing fees--I haven't worked in over three weeks because of the economy. . .things are tough. . .some donations are coming in that if nothing else helps me know I'm not alone in my thinking. . .at this point not enough to head off any potential problems that arise, but helping none the less. . .Thanks guys

GIVE THEM HELL DAVE.

Great song, Dave! 5s across the board! I haven't visited your site often, but I support you all the way. What's going on here is one of the worst cases of the music industry picking on the little guy. I mean, if they're leaving Weird Al & other parodists well enough alone, why must they go after you? Are they brain-damaged or just greedy? Anyways, best of luck to you, Dave! P.S., check out my recent parody about this.
Red Ant - May 19, 2009 - Report this comment
It's a shame that ASSCAP resorts to such things. I wonder if it would be possible to become a member of ASSHAT and get an unlimited play license for a small fee for one song, and then play it about 60 bazillion times (say, over a boom box outside of their headquarters, with 1000000 of the same song playing simultaneously with a nanosecond delay between them), and make a ton of money in royalties from your own song. Probably not, but it's fun to think of ways to screw with ASSCRAP, other than ranting or boycotting all of their artists. 5s.

Just thought you should know, I already signed your petition (under name Marie C Malgapo, which is my real name) and made a donation. Hope you win this case. Good luck, Dave. I'll pray for you.

I'd give you 6's if I could.

Belated thanks MrMacphisto and Christie Marie M. . .a lot of people think my fight with ASCAP is over, but it's not, they just aren't pushing the issue, my site is still semi-permanently damaged without having all of it's features. . .I hope someday to bring them back, thanks everyone!
