The Lyrics
This song goes out to those who miss bassist Cliff Burton of Metallica. I totally agree with you that his bass playing was the heart and sout of the band and that without him, it wasn't long before his ex-bandmates and his successor on bass, Jason Newsted (who departed in 2000) sold out; the sellout accelerated when Newsted was replaced by Robert Trujillo. The OS was one of the Floyd's last hits, capping three decades without any sign of sellout.
His bass will e'er resound, though he is no more.
I list to virtuosity when I hear his bass for sure.
I abhor new Metallica, like St. Anger and Reload.
They've been falling into sellout whene'er they hit the road
Because Cliff they lack, because Cliff they lack these days.
So God rest his soul! they just ain't whole
'Cos this Newsted guy was not as good.
Really, after the Black Album, they were as deadwood.
Adding insult unto injury, Newsted soon was gone himself.
This Trujillo has no talent; I put him on the shelf

Hopefully I will not be disappointed by Death Magnetic, even though it did involve Trujillo.
