The Lyrics

People it's been a long long time
Since Vietnam, and
Iraq's got more oil than they have a right to
Halliburton's gonna clean up all the fires.
And you don't care if I am just a liar.

I'll lead ya. Here we go again.
I'll lead ya. Is it ever gonna end?
I'll lead ya. Here we go again.
I'll lead ya.

You read my lips. You're believin' everything I said.
You must have a microchip implanted in your head.
We both know we're never gonna make it.
But that don't matter as long as I can fake it.

I'll lead ya. Here we go again.
I'll lead ya. Is it ever gonna end?
I'll lead ya. Here we go again.
I'll lead ya. We ain't learned our lesson yet.

Maybe it's no good and
We're just asking for trouble
But pay no mind 'cause I do just what I want ta.
It ain't no use we're headed for disaster.
Our polls say no but our wallet's talking faster.

I'll lead ya. Here we go again.
I'll lead ya. Here we go again.
I'll lead ya. Lead ya lead ya lead ya.
I'll lead ya. Here we go again.

well done, dubya. the first of perhaps many. plus i love how you came up with "dubya" as a fitting name for a parody author (dub-ya). you may not be getting too may responses yet since people may see your name and think youre pro-bush. perhaps youve carved a niche for yourself =)

Well done, matches the original well =)

I'm a Republican and I still gotta give Dubya straight A's x 5.

[SOTM] DKTOS, but great job.

[SOTM] DKTOS, but good compared to some of the other bush-bashes that get posted. Fave line: "Our polls say no but our wallet's talking faster"

(SOTM) Sorry Dubya, DKTOS and I rarely get excited about political parodies. That said, I agree with what is said here for the most part.

SOTM--I DKTOS, and I'm not generally down with the political parodies...but this was a good read...
Peter Andersson - July 10, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) IMHO a political parody should be funnier and possibly longer to be suitable for SOTM, but's that's just my 2 cents.
Agrimorfee - July 11, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) It's hard to get people excited about political parodies, especially after 6 frickin' years of youknowwho.

(SOTM) Didn't think I knew the song till I heard the OS, and it clicked. Well done, pacing is good, and conveys the message.
Mike (Mike Armstrong) - July 13, 2005 - Report this comment
(SOTM) Effective job of getting your message across, and the pacing was good, no complaints here

(SOTM) It was missing the grammatical errors I was expecting, but I can sympathize. 5's

(sotm) I liked the "Our polls say no but our wallet's talking faster" line, dubya - you don't have an ambitious simple-minded grammatically-challenged son, by any chance?
Spaff.com - July 28, 2005 - Report this comment
Alas, my MP3 source came up empty-handed when asked for either "Ah Leah" or "Donnie Iris," so I couldn't sing along. I found the original lyrics, though, and they certainly make for a nice political rewrite without even having to change very many words. Like others, I especially liked your sub for "Our minds said no but our hearts were talkin' faster."

Also, don't be discouraged by comments like "I don't care for political parodies." You may be unaware that there's a guy who posts like 100 anti-Right pieces per month - so many that I think some site participants are beyond satiated. However, I think there's still plenty of room here for sharp satire, political or not, so keep writing.

Well, I do care for political parodies - whether I agree with the sentiment or no, I enjoy a nicely-barbed satire. While I don't think this will win the SOTM, that's not 'cause it's a bad song. But there's so many good ones I've read this evening...

(SOTM0 Well written, dubya. Welcome to SOTM; unfortunately I DKTOS, but I'll keep ya in my scope!

SOTM.. DKTOS, but I found a copy to listen to. I always like seeing parodies that Bush-bash. Makes me proud to be Canadian. Good job Dubya. 555

DKTOS and I'm not a fan of Bush-bash for the sake of Bush-bash. Thankfully, this was well-written for what it was and I really enjoyed the 'disaster/faster' couplet. Nice one Dubya, welcome to the tournaments. It's a rough league here but it's a hell of a parody learning experience at the end of the day.

Ahh, one of many enjoyable political parodies. Loved the "Our polls say no but our wallet's talking faster" line.
