The Lyrics

#51. George W. Bush, March 19, 2003: "American and coalition forces are in the early stages of military operations to disarm Iraq, to free its people..." Barack Obama, March 19, 2011: "Today we are part of a broad coalition. We are answering the calls of a threatened people..." For proof of pacing, sing along to the original here.
You say we've got nothing in common
When I'm Bush, you're Obama
And I started two wars
You'll say, the world is better without me
You won that Nobel Peace Prize
And I didn't earn it no-where

But I said, what about
Your warmong'ring tendencies?
We said we both had coalitions of friends
And we didn't know how long or how much it'd cost us
And I said, well, that's the one thing we've got!

Got Saddam, and now you want Gaddafi
Waste Tomahawks like coffee
We hope you're not wrong
No Fly Zone! The planes cannot fly over
And you said they don't need Rovers
And I hope you're not wrong

And he said, what about your fumbling proclivities?
He said, I think I got U.N. approved
And as I recall, I think, you just got the Congress
And I said, well, that's the one thing you've not

You say that Lib-y-a we're bombin'
To lib-y-rate the people
And I've seen this before
You'll say it's not about the oil
We'll quickly leave their soil
And I know I said that too

And I said, what about your warmong'ring tendencies
We said we both had coalitions of friends
So we're digging up debt while we flatten the Middle East
And he said, well, that is something we've got

And I said, what about your unexplained strategies
We said we'll side with the rebels and fight
And who takes his place, is this as easy as Kosovo?
And you're just hoping it's not like Iraq!

And I said, what about your warmong'ring tendencies
We said we both had coalitions of friends
And we're calling for budget cuts but not for the Pentagon
And he said, well, that is something we've got

TPM - I see you've noticed a few parallels too. Nice job. ;D

There are no parallels. The Libyan freedom fighters begged us for help. The international coalition asked us. And the President did not lie us into the war. And, unlike Saddam Hussein, Moammar Khadafy (however you spell his name) HAS a history of the unprovoked killing of Americans -- the West Berlin disco in 1986 and the Pan Am bombing in 1988, whereas Saddam didn't kill Americans before January 1991 and wasn't killing Americans from 1991 to 2002. Obama is doing the right thing, while Bush should have been impeached.

Michael, I know there are differences, and I hope things play out as optimistically as possible. I'm just wary of costs, mission creep, and the post-dictator vacuum... Thanks for your comments.

Go Minstrel! Like this one very much. Although I think our British government should be even more ashamed of their behaviour - after all, they're now going after Gadaffi for killing his people with the weapons WE SOLD THEM in the first place. Heck, David Cameron even waited until the END of the latest weapon-trading conference with the Middle Eastern leaders before he got stuck in!
