Not to be a knitpicker or anything, but the original came out in the 00s, approximately 2001-2002. If this decade thing is gonna be a problem or anything, maybe Chucky should delete the decade list box on the submission form and have all future entries go in as "misc". Well JD, where have you seen your "authentic pictures" ? Please tell us. I think is a gay, or maybe a bisexual, but it doesn't matter anymore, what's more important than his music ????!!!

calm down, I'm not saying his orientation matters more than his music at all. If anyone has worshiped his songs and memorized every lyric down to the letter, it's me. I needed to set the record straight about him, because a lot of people are stubborn in rejecting the fact that Darren is attracted to men only. I could probably give 400 more reasons that what I already gave. As for the authentic pictures, well, I have been to about 300 different websites of his, and never kept track of where I was going. I did this for 4 years. I can search again, if u really need to know. All I know is that I saw a picture of Darren and Daniel in an old-fashioned carriage, smiling and holding hands like a regular couple would.

And another very important/interesting factor. Darren was quoted in an interview to have said he dyed his hair black "as a metaphor" to express that he felt he had to "hide who he really was" If you remember when Darren came to the US from AUS in 1997, he had long hair, puny arms, and dressed very fashionably. Once they got big, he chopped off his hair, and got really buff* and began flaunting himself with the bands ever-changing, slutty backup singers. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure what he was doing. He was masculinzing himself to conceal his real idenity. When dan and darren broke up, darren went solo (obviously) and notice how much more carefree he is. He's not in the limelight anymore. He let his natural blonde, curly hair grow out, he wears what he wants, which most people consider to be "gay clothes". But who cares he happy now. He may have been the only boy in high school belting out solos in the school musicals, he may have fabricated a fake wife to appear like the normal straight hunk everyone wanted him to be... (notice how we never* saw Colby and his defense was "Why would I invite cameras into my life?") But that's show business! Whew, my business here is done.

I've seen pics of Darren's ex-wife and no, I'm not about to post/mail them for you. At the end of the day it don't matter shit whether he's gay or straight - it's not like any of you are ever going to get a chance to shag the man, so stop with the wishful thinking. The new album is EXCELLENT btw, if anyone's interested in the music. Peace

sorry Jyll. I have not listened to any of his new albums. The last one I actually bought was their self-titled debut from '97. For 4 years after that, I just followed their music videos, listened to their song clips on sites, etc. BY the way, DSH is 34 years old now (if u don't know who DSH is, ur not a true fan. lol Just kidding.)

for goodness sake, does it really matter, it is possible that he might just be in touch with his feminim side. although the way he expresses himself is not how you would see a stupid butch macho man act, why does that mean he is gay. interviewers have asked him this question and if he knows that people think he is gay why would he hide it. the man is not making music for people to discuss is private life, he is making them because he is a very gifted singer/song-writer who loves what he does. and in regards to the question is he os isn't he? Hi All, Just browsing when i came across your discussion. I'm an avid Darren fan, and to be honest, I'm not quite sure whether he's straight or gay. I'd be interested to know though. However, i do not believe he was ever "partnered" with Daniel the way it is implied here. That's ridiculous! I also believe he was married. JD, i don't know what you THOUGHT you saw, but i doubt they'd be kissing IN concert. The media would've been all over that! Seems highly unlikely ! I know these days you can't really be sure about these things, but Daniel did say that he'd been with the same girl for a number of years and it's common knowledge that he's now married. And Darren always said that Daniel was the type of person who kept everyone at a distance, including him (Darren). I guess people just see what they want to see in the end! Even at concerts!

His first solo album had songs so much better than the crap we listen here usually ( boybands,Spears& Aguillera's for example), but I NEVER heard a song of Darren here. Yesterday, I search at my KazaA and found lots of music from Darren's new album ( popular,unloveable, etc) for 5 minutes, while it was downloading, I felt like If I was about to fly. " Finally I'll listen to a new Darren's song!". When it finished, surprise! 4:50 minutes of...SILENCE! All 3 songs I dowloaded was in complete SILENCE!!! THe problem is my computer or this is someone's idea of a pratical joke?

I think the story is that some people/ person who went to the listening sessions decided to put up the names of the songs despite the fact that Darren asked them not to. So, i think it's just the song titles - the album is not out yet, so i don't know how they could gain access to the actual songs.

Thanx JD, i got to see the pics. Have to agree with the rest though. We know what a goofball Darren can be and to me it's obvious he's goofing around. Besides, as i said before, Daniel is engaged to Kathleen De Leon - a girl he's been with since high school. In all the interviews i've read with Darren, there hasn't been the slightest hint that he might be gay. I think this topic can be put to rest now. If Darren is gay, i'll believe it if it comes from him. And, i'll still like his music regardless.

OK JD, you obviously have your mind made up by the sounds of things. However, i'm still not convinced. All the things you've mentioned as "proof", sounds very circumstantial to me - just like the pics. There are many reasons why married couples don't have kids. His career had just taken off at that time, that could've been a reason. Not having kids doesn't make him gay. And many stars don't enjoy their private lives being made public knowledge - no surprise there. In all the interviews i've read when the subject of relationships are brought up - he refers to women not men. But, admittedly, this doesn't really prove anything either. The fanfics are JUST that - Fan fiction! It has nothing to do with Darren or Daniel if fans want to see them getting it on! For eg. if you were a star and i was your fan and i fantasize about you with a funny suit on, working in a circus, does that make you a clown? I've seen the interview you're referring to on 60 minutes - and Darren did not look uncomfortable to me when answering that question. And i have seen him wear his wedding band on many occasions! If he's gay just cause he can sing a great falsetto, then i guess that makes a lot of artists gay. I guess we'll never know for sure whether he is gay or not. It really doesn't matter - would just be nice not to speculate. As i said, your proof - just circumstantial - no HARD evidence. I may not be sure about Darren - and frankly, don't care anymore, but i'm convinced that Daniel is definately not gay! And until proven otherwise by say - a public statement, i'll put all this to rest now. I liked the debate though. PS, i know many people who like Anne Rice who are NOT homosexuals.

Well, you both have good arguments. As I said before, I think Darren is gay (or bi), but not Daniel. Of course IT DOESN'T MATTER at all, we'll maybe never know what truth is. But it's interresting to confront our different points of view, even if it's useless ! I'm sure that Darren has a gay aspect, coz of the way he's wearing and covering (have you ever seen a straight man with such clothes as those he was wearing in 97-98 ???) Have you ever seen a straight man who always change his physical appearance like him ?! He always takes care of his body, and don't talk me about "metrosexual" ! There's the way he talks and moves also, the way he lets the doubt... A lot of details he cannot control anymore, even if he tries to. Yeah, you just have to look at him. One day, my sister was looking one old pic of SG, she said me that Darren was "strange" and looked "like a woman". Few months after, one of my friend said me exactly the same. My mom told me he was very androgynous. It was when he has long black hair and wore clinging clothes (he's very fashionable guy, like a part of gay people is). When Spin was out, a friend of mine said me again he looked like a woman, with his long blond hair and his bright shirt, and his poses. I'd forgot those external and objective points of view.

Mssy- I'm done talking to you considering that we both strongly disagree on this topic, and you made me sound like an idiot with the statements that I made. It is very obvious to me that he is homosexual. I figured that out when I was 14, and I was a lot less intuitive then. My statements were not meant to generalize, stereotype or sound circumstantial. Firstly, JD, let me say that i too have my suspicions about Darren - hence my contributions to this forum. However, i was looking for some substantial evidence since these days the old stereotypes of fashion and appearance doesn't apply anymore. The thing is that i've seen many men who are fashion concious and look after themselves that are NOT gay! I admit that he did look sort of funny in those old SG pics, but so did most of the bands of the 80's. Eg. Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Bon Jovi etc - they all wore clingy clothes, had long hair and wore make-up. I mean, what is this thing about fashion anyway. (And, yes, i have seen straight men dress like Darren does, Jyll) I'm sure u may have noticed, i like a debate, but even though i too think he MAY be gay, i was looking for something more concrete to confirm this than what you and Jyll have offered. alright, almighty p, I'll go into detail. First of all, During every song Darren had his arm around Daniel. If he wasn't hanging off of him, he was just staring in his eyes. Then after a remix of Santa Monica ended, Darren gave Dan a peck on the lips, not on the cheek, near the drum sets. Only a few people besides me noticed, since the macho guitarist Dave Kerry , I think that was his name took his shirt off and Anna Maria La Spina (backup singer) cheered him on. She was such a slut.. Of Spin ? Well, I think it's Heart Attack, Dirty, Crush... But nothing is better for me than To the moon & back, and a lot of SG songs. I've read that The Tension &... was very, very different that all we ever heard from him by now (more electro), and I think we'll be very surprised ! But Spin was surprising too, and we like it anyway ! And what about you ?

Off the SG album I like Break Me Shake Me and To The Moon and Back...off Affirmation, I like I Knew I Loved You...Chained To You...and You Can Still Be Free...and off Spin...wow...Spin was good...as well as Creeping Up on You...and Strange Relationship. Darren's got a really good voice..but what I've always wondered is, in SG...Daniel never looks at the camera or sings. The breakup obviously...but that was such a shame...they were such a good group. I think Darren may be gay (not that it matters) by reading all his lyrics. In almost every situation he uses the word babe instead of woman or girl. He has a great talent that he is sharing with the rest of the world, to have people listen to his music and enjoy it. That matters more than anything really...I do hope that he continues the excellent work he is doing on his music and that he keeps enjoying what he does and what his music means to people. I have met Darren and he is one of the most friendly musicians I have ever met, it you read his interviews when he talks about his Love life there is "I don't care what people think" which is awesome. However when you put that out there, there is the perception and lack of denial.

Hes got to be the most sentric unusual person ive ever met and i'll quote that 'met' i stayed behind after the show to get my tour book signed and even though he was tired he still smiled gave me a kiss on the cheek and signed my book sed'thank you gr8 night' and went off in his blacked out windowed car. What i wanna tell u is i'm 17 years old and i'm bisexual (or even gay... but i found myself in love with girls in the past... so that means bisexual i guess!!)... What i wanna say about Darren is that in my opinion he is a bisexual man for sure... Gay, straight or bisexual, I think Darren is a fantastic singer/songwriter and I think it's sad how underrated he is. I'm a huge Savage Garden fan but I reckon The Tension and The Spark is his best work to date. As for it being autobiographical, I think a song like Love and Attraction is quite revealing but at the same time, you can't always take every lyric or gesture of his literally. Darren likes to tease us with his sexuality and that's what makes us so attracted to him. However, that doesn't stop me from hoping that Daniel dumps that fiancee of his and gets back together with Darren, be it professionally or personally. Darren and Daniel forever! x

I think he is gay, why else would he be so open about everything else in his life, even his fathers physical abuse and alcoholism and then suddenly clam up when it comes to anything about his love life? saying you are straight should be a piece of cake compared to telling the world his dad beat him and his mother up and was an alcoholic. in every interview i have read he says it doesnt matter what sexual preference he is blah dee blah, which i agree with, but when everyones calling you gay, wouldnt you just rather go "ok, look im straight now stop pestering me" or "look im gay, happy now?" or whatever. he is extremely feminine and hasnt ever given an explanation as to why his marriage ended, and its not as if either of them cheated, fell out of love e.t.c as they are apparently still best friends and speak on the phone almost every day! I am a fan of Darren's and I have been lucky enough to meet him a few times, and he is the loveliest guy you could meet. He's got the most fantastic voice, and writes emotive and beautiful songs. He's very intelligent, and got a fantastic sense of humour. I do think people should leave his private life alone though. It's really none of our business. Back to the original subject - the parody - the bit about moaning at the beginning of his first single because the ladies love it - that made me smile - and I have to admit I do love it!

I hate the fact that his sexuality is such an issue, Darren expresses his own feelings in songs such as affirmation "i believe you cant control or choose your sexuality". All that says is that he is not homophobic, it doesnt say he is homosexual. Who are we to say what his sexual preference is, personally i am glad he doesnt openly admit anything one way or another, i believe everyone has a right to personal privacy, famous or not. All i know is that he has only admitted to being metrosexual and that being said, half the worlds male population are metrosexual, doesnt mean they are all homosexual. Speculaton aside, what matters is the music so gay/straight/black/white/human or otherwise, he is still one totally amazing artist. =)

Hey kids. Well to set record for you all straight, Darren was 34 this May, May 8th to be precise. Hi im Neski - 16 from australia...like so many of you in this disscussion have an opinion of Darrens sexuality, i have one also. Im not asking for you to accept this as your answer but at least read over it - its the truth in my eyes as i believe it. I love Daz so much and i have since like forever - hes hot and so very talented :P. I believe he is straight simply because its what i think and he hasnt been proven to be gay or bi as of yet - no concrete proof. You cant judge a person to be gay/bi by just by looking at them. You say you can tell from the way he dresses, acts and moves etc. Its bull - My friend has these same characteristics and almost everyone has asked if he is gay - he has a girlfriend. Just because he acts feminime doesnt mean he has to be ruled out from being straight its pretty stupid of you think that especially in todays society. You are being stereotyprical with what youre saying about gay and bi people as well as straight. His wife - I say she does exist and is not just 'fake' or a 'decoy' to hide his sexuality why would he lie about something so significant - they broke up for a possibility of reasons one might be that they had a strain on the relationship by being in the publics eye...people break up in life its how the world works! As for kids - maybe he didnt have them with Colby because she didnt want them at that stage in her life and so early in her marriage - its not nessessarily Darren to be blamed for it. As for the adoption thing - Daz is a great guy and maybe he wants to give a home to someone more unfourtunate and give them a second chance! i myself plan to do this before i have my own simply because I am a good person and he is too - reguardless of what my husband thinks...i havent found that guy yet does this mean im gay - NO!. Daniel and Darren have always had a connection from the moment Daz auditioned for the band - its why he was hired because they got along so well - they have never been in a sexual relationship ever Dan has always been with Kathleen De Leon and Daz has had Colby and other people im sure of. Friends can muck around like that - i can tell that by looking at those pictures they are smiling and laughing in the pictures indicating a bond between mates, a comfortable atmosphere where they let loose and do what they want and have a joke - my friends do it yes 2 guys who have g/f's. And if Daz was upset about the split of SG - its expected. When you have been in a relationship like theirs where they have spent heaps of time together working and friendship of course youre going to be upset if it isnt that way anymore. It was a major part of his life and im sure if you were him you would have done the same thing he did. The lyrics stares and kisses etc - they are basics. "I belive you can control or choose your sexuality" - this doesnt mean that he is saying he is gay or bi it is saying that you are who you are and that people in society think that you can help it and control it, its a statement of how society is. The staring and kisses etc - if you ar enot making the kisses and stareing up - bonding and friendship can be the explanation people can do that and not be given that title. One more thing and then i will shut up. His life - he opens up as much as he wants to, he does it through his music for sure its who he is and we all love him for that if he doesnt want his love life to be exposed he shouldnt have to be deprived of that. Maybe its the one thing in his life that he has a say about whereas the media has access to all other proportions of it and it may be fine with him. There is also the possibility that his partner doesnt want to be in the limelight of the media and that Daz doesnt want to expse his partner because of a certain way the media react - the can distort things and - hes protective of what he has because he wants to hold onto it. Darren acts this way because he is Darren hayes and its to be expected we love him this way - coz he always leaves something to the imagination of his fans and the public thats hidden. These are my opinions - say what you like of them but i think i have a very valid point everything has different meanings to what other people think they are.
