The Lyrics

Fun facts: Weird Al was doing parodies of Gangsta's Paradise before it was cool. On the flip side, the Amish were warding off the mainstream before it was cool. Stevie Wonder was playing this song's riff before it was Cool(io). A paradox is defined as "A seemingly absurd or self-contradictory statement or proposition that when investigated or explained may prove to be well founded or true." Examples: Does a barber shave himself? Does a mailman deliver his own mail? When CatDog burps, does CatDog also fart? That kind of thing. In this case, what happens when the mainstream-evading hipster movement becomes mainstream?
As I put on my vinyl while I drink some café
I take a look at my life and my hands, they start to quake
Cause I've been shunning the mainstream so long,
That even the iTunes freaks like my vinyl songs!

But all the coolest indie bands… the pops don’t deserve ‘em
Me, my favorite kind of mus…ic no one has heard of
I never liked Justin Bieber, better believe it
No, ewww!… Toast Asylum, they write all their songs
I’ll really take some Pabst over Diet Coke
Nix the Coke, Pepsi -- Myself? Drinking Crystal Yolk, fool!
I like magazines like one called Clash, that’s selling Mad-like
I’m like “Please, make it stop! Everything’s in the spotlight!”

You see, our “pass“ is “fox”
Can’t you see the hipster’s paradox?
Black hats and pointy socks
Are too mainstream -- hipster’s paradox
Black frames and coffee shops
I just said it -- hipster’s paradox
French films and old-school clocks
Do you get it? -- hipster’s paradox

Look at the situation they got me facin'
I can't live a normal life, I was born a Boheme
Now, we gotta be down with the mainsteam?!
If I ever needed funding, no Kickstarter please
I loved Pushing Daisies, fool, but really hated Lost
Chiller airs it at night, but it’s no total loss
I'm a scarf’d out hipster with flannel sweater
And my hat is made by Jacques -- there ain’t nothing better, fool
Ain’t read Twilight, it ain‘t my kinda book,
I'm reading Gneiss , Johan Zeiss, what can I say?
I'm 33 now, but could I stand to see 34
My way going mainstream… I don't know

Tell me whyyyy are we.. so bliiiind to see
That the treeeends we flaunt… are tooooo mainstream?

Our anti-mainstream lives
Are too mainstream -- hipster’s paradox
French scarves and flannel socks
In the mainstream -- hipster’s paradox
Bashed mainstream ‘round the clock
Now we’re mainstream -- hipster’s paradox
Bill Shakespeare’s come to light
He’s too mainstream -- hipster’s paradox

Paradox is forming! But I’m not conforming!
Sellout after sellout! Life is getting boring!
Everybody's hipping, but half of them ain't knowin’
It seems like only the Batman‘s, three films they know from Nolan
I say they gotta learn, which conflicts with anti-mainstream
If they can't understand me, don’t cease to please me
Stay underground, well, what the Thatch?
I guess, so what?! My vinyl discs, they‘ve never had a scratch, fool!

You see, we’ve lost our lives
To the mainstream -- hipster’s paradox
It‘s just the way I jive
Living in the hipster's paradise
All things are mainstream prone
When you’re in a hipster Twilight Zone
This song is too well known, here’s a song by Oscar J. Malone

Tell me whyyyy are we… so daaaamn mainstream?
Heard my faaaavorite band… on MTV
Tell me whyyyy are we… so bliiiind to see
That the treeeends we flaunt… are toooo mainstream?

(Choir sings)

This parody totally sold out, I liked it better back when it was just a word document. Haha. Great idea man! I loved it!

(On the Waterfront) I love the concept and what an epic OS to do it to (one of my oersonal favorites). I liked how you worked hipster stereotype into the character, but made it so you weren't making fun of them too much because that would've destroyed the character. I think I would've liked a little more variation with exactly what your character was so upset about. I know mainstream music is a big hipster no-no, but I wou;d've liked to see more other stuff like the Kickstarter joke. Overall really great though!

I must be the real Hipster's Paradox, because I didn't find this parody until four years AFTER it was cool. Not really, it still is.
