As he walks through the rubble of Berlin or what’s left
He takes a look at the strikes and the city’s shattered mess
One thousand bomber raids coming on strong,
Comes as no surprise most of the city is gone
High above the Zoo Bunker he gazes at flak units
With Panzers in the streets covered in useless Zimmerit
In the crowd the Volk are talking while SS stalking
Those that won’t fight can expect a hanging
But Hitler Youth with Panzerfausts are no joke
Armor croaks, he can tell by their thick black smoke, they brew
PAK, King Tiger, and rocket fire light up the night
Hitler can’t help but wonder- is this the end of MY Reich???

I only know this song from the Weird Al Yankovic parody "Amish Paradise". Still, a good retelling of the final days of the Reich, when thousands died fighting for a hopelessly lost cause.

More accurate to say hundreds of thousands, Patrick. Perhaps as many as half of a million. Americans were smart to steer clear of it.
Russians lied about the losses from the Batlle of Berlin. From the outskirts all the way to the Reichstag they lost 660,000 troops out of 2.2 million! Most history books claim around 300,000 but might just count the final push not the start.

I once had the same idea quite awhile ago for this OS, but just never put it to use, b/c rap is one genre of music that is difficult for me to parody. Nicely Done!!! ;-)
Robert, I've heard it said that one reason the Russians lost so many is that the armies of Ivan Konev and Georgi Zhukov also battled against each other in order to gain the glory of getting to the Fueherbunker first, and that tens of thousands died in this mini-civil war
Thanks WCJ and also CML! For the German side they faced 240 full divisions and intitial bombardment by 20,000 artillery pieces and a deluge of armor. The German Army and fragments of SS had 50 understrength divisions plus the Volkssturm and HJ volunteers. Still it wasn't a cake walk by any means. The Zoo Bunker took direct hits of 230mm and it barely scratched it. Russians were pissed at having to fight for every inch of ground near the heart of regime. Two King Tigers expended all 144 rds of ammo in one night of fighting near the Chancellory!!! They had to be abandoned. PAK, FLAK, Panzerfaust, and Panzerschreck fire took out many tanks and SPGs but the Reds rolled on. Nazis had tabun artillery shells stockpiled on a barge on one of the rivers but never used them. And of course, Hitler could have escaped with Hanna Reitsch or Baur, or Kreisling in a number of aircraft up until May 1st. Since there is no posititve verification of Hitler's death (Soviets lied about skull cap, dentist records, etc...) and only 4 eyewitness accounts by diehard Nazis of the shot and bodies taken out to be burned... one can only wonder WHY Hitler would call his Doppelganger to the bunker and have him shot in the head? All the dogs from the bunker are accounted for too. But Hitler and Eva remain a mystery as Stalin confided postwar that he didn't know where they were. I'm sure they died in Berlin but how or where remains specualtion. There simply is no real proof as the blood on the sofa and weapon could have belonged to the Doppelganger with Hitler's PPK. And lastly, one would wonder WHY Stalin would remain silent IF the bodies had been discovered... why they were not on display in a permanent museum dedicated to the defeat of Nazi Germany???
Would the Germans have fought as fiercely for Berlin had it been the Americans poised to take the city? I never heard that the Russian armies fought each other for the glory of being first. One of the last units defending Berlin was made up of Frenchmen.

I am a little confused too, I have a movie called "Inglourious Basterds" Starring Brad Pritt. and it takes place in 1941-1944, during the fight between the Nazi's in WW2, According to the film 3 people had to be killed besides just Hitler in order to end the war, so maybe there might have been a cover up with that? if the movie is anything true-to-life as to the way it actually went. Maybe you should either rent/buy it sometime and watch it yourself, and see what you think? But if Hitler was known to be dead by the people who were fighting him, which he obviously had to be, b/c the war stopped, then some proof, must be written somewhere on something. But, however I am not very good at history at all, and definitely not as great as you are Rob, but I really can't make sense out of it either, of course, Hitler, killed or not, would surely be dead by now due to age alone, but if someone knows that he died some other way, then they obviously know something we all don't. ;-)
