** Carebears compared to Carefour district of Port au Prince, the heart of Voodooland. They supposedly represent Lwa spirits that want to "make friends" (followers) so that they can possess them! Especially children.
*** In the 1960s a man abducted, raped, and killed a young HS girl in Sayama, Japan. The sister got so upset that she told police she was seeing a giant raccoon demon and "cat monsters" before she committed suicide. The girls names in the series both refer to May which was when the younger sister was murdered (May 1st). The setting is Sayama Hills. And everyone that sees the Totoros ends up dead shortly afterwards. Except the sisters! In real-life the surviving sister committed suicide.

to be fair I always liked Gargamel more than those annoying little blue twits they call The Smurfs but whoever said that those little blue nuisances are comparable to The Klan is taking it just a bit too far! 455
Jon, the Klan stuff started because of the white caps, Gargamel had a "Jew nose", his cat had a Jewish name Azriel which is the Angel of Death in Hebrew, and he created Aryan blonde Smurfette to infiltrate and destroy the Smurfs. Crazy what people read into this stuff. In reality the Smurfs originated in Belgium under Peyo as "Les Schtroumpfs" in 1958!!!
I think that adults spend way too much time analyzing kids shows for things that may not even be there. I never liked The Smurfs, but others do and then there are the movies. Another excuse to sell merchandise!
