Thanks Jon. Because of the Russian entry into Syria, and the new Russian T-14 Armata, Angela Merkel authorized the Leopard 3 last year. Although still in concept phase, the tank has several givens. This includes a more powerful MTU turbodiesel to maintain 24+ HP per ton for mobility, the mounting of the new 140mm main gun of longer length with muzzle brake , angled armor mixed with RHS, spaced, and modular (EM is available too but is very complex), aux cannon up top upgraded to a 30mm, laser flak installed and rotary smoke discharger. The engine will be up front and the exhaust cold-filtered to defeat IR. Full armor skirting too and a rear hatch for entry and exit, loading similar to the Israeli Merkava series. Add updated fire control, defensive systems, and hardened turret and bottom hull to defeat top attack missiles and mines. It may even have Anti-IED. The Leopard 2A-7++ is still the king but weighs 67 tons German-loaded. Leopard 3 will be bigger and heavier at est 70-72 tons loaded. Expect the MTU powerpack to be 2000-2200 hp and the suspension augmented.
