Ignorant Dr. there are no assault weapons sold in gun stores. Sporter rifles look military, but are single-shot, no selector switch, no flash suppressor , no bayonet lug, and most of the time with no grip but a full butt and trigger guard. Your lack of knowledge about guns and lack of experience is showing. Also, many of these sporters are in .22LR... hardly fit for mass murder. Btw, I would never trust my life to or make an assault with the crappy AR-15 which tends to jam. Glocks suck too as auto pistols. Police carry them because they cannot afford SIGs, HKs, or Walthers!

Certain people possessing guns kill innocent people. To prevent such killings, these "certain people" must be identified and denied the freedom to buy guns. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that Second Amendment rights are not absolute, but subject to regulation. Our ability to identify is presently imperfect, to say the least, but people on the no-fly list should be peremptorily denied legal purchase. Public madmen, such as Pastor Roger Jimenez (no relation) of Verity Baptist Church in Sacramento is another example. In fact, Youtube has stripped him of FIRST Amendment rights. Rob, the pastor is in your neighborhood. Take a walk to his church and deliver to him a brutally detailed lecture on Third Reich weapons, ending after an eternity or when he is declared dead of boredom, whichever comes first.

I don't believe in pre-emptive banning of an individual's RIGHT to purchase any firearm unless you can prove beyond a shadow of doubt that the person poses an imminent threat to himself or others. The vast majority of gun owners in the US are responsible. They shouldn't be judged by the acts of psychotic individuals, hate mongers, or terrorists of any ideology. And types of guns don't matter. A simple hunting rifle can be used as sniper. A wheel gun can kill just as good as an automatic in determined hands. A hunting shotgun can blast someone just as well as a tactical one can. And the sporters? Most are in .22LR. The 5.56mm and 7.62mm cost double to triple the amount. Large purchases of long arms and ammo is already reported. DOJ forms are filled out. You have to have certificates to buy pistols and long arms and can only legally transfer through a gun store unless passed down to family under strict laws. So what more do you need? No method or law will ever prevent gun deaths. Criminals, terrorists, the insane will always find a way to obtain firearms. Taking away Second Amendment rights is not the answer. And btw, sweeping gun legislation only drives people to purchase more guns.

Sympathy for the victims demands some investigation of solutions.
