The Lyrics
Thus is a comparison between the DeHavilland D.H.98 Mosquito and the Focke-Wulf Fw Ta 154 Moskito. The former was a true multirole aircraft and for a time was not vulnerable to German fighters at height and speed (37,000 ft at 370-380 mph). However, the He-219 Uhu (Eagle Owl) at 42,000 ft and 416 mph easily shot down the Mosquito as did the first pre-production Me-262 Schwalbe (Swallow) jet fighters at 540 mph. While the British Mosquito thrived, the rival Ta 154 was doomed to failure due to bombing of its glue factory which led to a poor substitute that contained acid that ate the wings away! The Ta 154 had superior height, speed, and 5 heavy cannons in addition to SN-2 radar. 7 A-series were operational for a short time. Could have been the Luftwaffe's best night fighter if not for circumstances...

The Mosquito night fighters used 1500 HP RR Merlin engines. The Ta 154 used 1750 HP Jumo 211s.

Who would have thought that bombing a glue factory would stop an aircraft project? Just saw a story yesterday about a giant Russian bomber that carried small fighter planes as auxiliary power on takeoff, then used as dive bombers to attack oil refineries and bridges. Very strange looking, but unlike a lot of these hybrid projects, this one seems to have had some success.
