The Lyrics

My turn to make a mash-up!
Don't know the song? Click here

I had to make the verses twice as long as the ones in the Tom Petty original [to fit in all the lyrics from "Piano Man"], and the pacing isn't EXACTLY the same....but it can work if you sing it the right way.
(The hyphens are supposed to give you an idea of where to pause in the singing.)

Obviously, I do NOT own copyright of the lyrics here. The credit goes to whoever wrote the Billy Joel tune.

And REMEMBER, "Piano" is pronounced as a two-syllable word.
[starts with harmonica from "Piano Man" but then abruptly changes to the guitar riff from RDAD]

It's 9 o'clock - on a Saturday
The regular crowd - shuffles in
There's an old man - sitting next to me
Makin' love to his - tonic and gin

He says, "Son, can you - play me a memory?
I'm not really sure - how it goes
But it's sad and sweet - and I knew it complete
When I wore a young - er man's clothes"

[chorus]
Yeah, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
We could use a melody
You got us feelin' alright
Yeah, you're the piano man

Now, John at the bar - is a friend of mine
He gets me my - drinks for free
He's quick with a joke - or to light up your smoke
Though, there's someplace that he'd - rather be

He says, "Bill, I believe - this is killing me
As the smile ran away - from his face
Well, I'm sure that I - could be a movie star
If i just could get - out of this place"

Yeah, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
We could use a melody
You got us feelin' alright
Yeah, you're the piano man

Now, Paul is a - real estate novelist
Who never had time - for a wife
And he's talking with Davy - who's still in the navy
And probably will - be for life

And the waitress is - practicing politics
As the businessmen slow - ly get stoned
And they're sharing a drink - they call loneliness
But, it's better than drink - in' alone

Yeah, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
We could use a melody
You got us feelin' alright
Yeah, you're the piano man

It's a pretty good - crowd for a Saturday
As the manager gives - me a smile
'Cause he knows it's me - they've been comin' to see
To forget about life - for a while

The piano sounds - like a carnival
And the microphone smells - like a beer
And they sit at the bar - and put bread in my jar
And say, "Man, what are you - doin' here?"

Yeah, you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
We could use a melody
You got us feelin' alright
Yeah, you're the piano man

I love this technique - singing the words of one song to the tune of another. It takes skill...and you have it to spare. ;D
