The Lyrics

This is about my trip to California in October 2002 to pick up my friend Lauren who had moved out there for the summer. I submitted the story at the end about me and her friend Maya to my local radio station's website and they posted it as their "Booty Call of the Week!"
When I wake up
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man to drive for two whole days
And when I go out
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes out of my way
If I get bored
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's changin' the CD
And if I break down
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man stuck in west Wyoming
'Cause I just drove a thousand miles and I just drove 300 more
Just to be the man who's car broke down and died and now is really poor
Well it broke down
And it was beyond repair, it was beyond repair and really screwed my plan
So I said "junk it"
And although I was real sad I was so very glad to have a minivan
When I get there
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who's lost in Lake Tahoe
And when I find it
When I find where Lauren lives
I'm gonna be the man who needs to smoke a bowl
'Cause I just drove a thousand miles and I just drove a thousand more
Just to be the man to drive two thousand miles and pass out on the floor

When I wake up
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who smokes a lot of weed
And when I smoke it
I'm gonna smoke out of a bong
I'm gonna act weird, and then I'll go to sleep
When I go out to the casino with Maya
I'm gonna be the man who gets some in the end
And when I drunk
Well I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who sleeps with Lauren's friend
I'm gonna be the man who sleeps with Lauren's friend
'Cause I just drove a thousand miles and I just drove a thousand more just to be the man who picked up Lauren from California but at least I scored

'Cause I just drove a thousand miles and I just drove a thousand more just to be the man who picked up Lauren from California but at least I scored

Even though the song was a hit in '93 (during Bill Clinton's first few months as president), I'm not going to write you a ticket because I read somewhere that it was recorded four years earlier. No ticket. ;)

You're right, parody police, it was a hit in '93, but it was originally released in 1988. Thanks for not writing me a ticket!
