The Lyrics

This past month I've been plagued by mysterious pains in my toes which didn't allow me to sleep very well. This snowballed into a situation where I was starting to have significant pain in my toes and the sole of my foot, which made me think it might be gout. So I went to the doctor,, who as it turned out, was also a song parodist. So when he asked me what was wrong I simply sang out .....
Gout, gout .. get it all out
And this is the thing I'm complaining about
Hey Doc, I'm talking to you, Hey Doc

Gout, gout .. get it all out
And this is a pain I can do without
Hey Doc, I'm talking to you, hey Doc

In midnight time
I shouldn't have to grab my toe
It's red and white
It really is a source of woe

DOCTOR:

Those kidney pies*
You ate them up without constraint
Kiss them good by
You shouldn't have to yelp in pain
You shouldn't have to yelp in pain

Gout, gout .. work it all out
And these are some things you must do without
Hey Dude, I'm talking to you, hey Dude

In stout* imbibed
And in the night you felt like hell
It's now proscribed
I hope you choose to snack on kale
I hope you choose to snack on kale

ME:

Gout, gout .. get it all out
And this is the thing I'm presenting about
Hey Doc, I'm talking to you, Hey Doc

Gout, gout .. get it all out
And this is a pain that didst make me shout
Hey Doc, I'm talking to you, Hey Doc

Gout, gout .. work it all out
And this is the reason I cannot drink stout*
Come on, I hope that's not true, come on

And when I've foresworn Brit cuisine*
If I could change my diet
I really hope I'll watch purines
I really hope to watch purines

Gout, gout .. let it all out
And this is the thing I was singing about
Come on, I'm singing to you, come on

*Anything with an asterisk is a trigger for gout. British cuisune is basically one big gout trigger. Purines are a compound found in most foods that break down into uric acid Foods high in purines trigger gout attacks

I appreciate that there is at least one more "Shout" refrain at the end of the song that I should have "treated." But right about the time I was writing the word "purines", my right big toe came under intense goutish attack. I tried to hold on for two more stanzas, but the pain was too intense (lol) I was forced to throw in the towel after one refrain, lest I lose the entire submission (;-D) ...... (Why am I LOL-ing at that?)

I've "gout" to make a confession, Rob. I was wrong about the cause of my foot and toe pain. The type, location and timing of the pain suggested gout, but it was actually was caused by a pinched nerve or neuroma in my left foot. So apparently, I parodied "Shout" under false pretenses; I took the tune of Tears For Fears in vain. I should have been doing "Ever' Neuroma Wants to Rule Your World."
