The Lyrics

Let's see if I summarised Valerie Tripp's American Girl novel "Meet Kit" properly. Just read it recently, and while it was a little on the short side, it was quite 'swell. Spoilers abound, of course, for those who don't have the book or doll+book combo yet.
Wrote some new headlines
Doing hunt and peck
Ruthie's helping me
Then it happened
Raving when we had new neighbours*
Brother's college ain't a pleasure**
And my daddy lost his dealership***

Stirling's always sick
Whiffing VaporRub
Clashed with Mrs. Howard
Mother blamed me
Ranted and full of displeasure
Banging at my old typewriter
And my daddy lost his dealership

Hate my room cause it's pink and fluffy
But, alas, someone else would board that shack
I'll make do with that dusty attic
I'm glad I have my buddies
Yet dad's too bummed already
And my daddy lost his dealership

I can't stand this Great Depression
People poor for no good reason
And my daddy lost his dealership

Why'd that you'll ever ever ever ever credit?
In debt, we all do hate it
And my daddy lost his dealership

I can't stand this Great Depression
People poor for no good reason
And my daddy lost his dealership
* The Howards, specifically Stirling and his mother. Mr. Howard was away as he was busy finding a new job in Chicago.
** Charlie Kittredge: "Dad told me, because it means that I won't be able to go to college..."
*** Mr. Kittredge lost his dealership, partly since he used up his savings which was given to all of his employees in a last ditch attempt.

I still have the 2008 DVD and book because my Blu-ray Disc is badly scratched
