The Lyrics

Well... I guess the title gives away the theme, though this time I´m using the other angle to give those insignificant crewmembers the credit they deserve. :-)
You may think we´re foolish
For the foolish things we do
You may wonder why we still hug you
When you´re leaving that way that you do
Well Ensign you know you turn us
There ain´t no swaying ´bout that
So come on over here and tell us
That man, oh you´ll be coming back
And boy it sure ain´t your wages
´Cause you got nothing to stack

We love you for your red ensign shirt
Un-crushed welted seams
Striving in the back
Beaming down in teams
Waving to the girls
Keeping out of sights
Using all that training
On just staying alive
Man you do it proper and you´ll stay away from hurt
In your red ensign shirt, red ensign shirt

Well and down there on some planet
Dangers always come along
There´s always somebody shooting
At you for reasons that are all wrong
Or they tempt you, man, with latinum
And they tempt you, man, with toys
And they tempt you with the pleasures
That green babes can give boys
They say Q tempted Janeway with a way home
But nobody´s falling for that

He should have tried a red ensign shirt
Un-crushed welted seams
Striving in the back
Beaming down in teams
Waving to the girls
Keeping out of sights
Using all that training
On just staying alive
Man you do it proper and you´ll stay away from hurt
In your red ensign shirt, red ensign shirt
Yes, I know the original was originally a Bruce Springsteen song, but Natalie Cole was the one making it a hit, and I like that version better, and noone here at Amiright has made a parody of any of her songs before, so...

Bruce is the man. I liked his version better. Still a good parody, though.

You want parodies of Natalie Cole songs? Try "Unforgettable" and anything else she does borrowing her father's recordings! OK, this was a good parody, pretty funny, but what kind of Trekker would I be if I didn't pick a few nits? ("Trekkers" love the shows and movies, but don't dress up for the conventions like "Trekkies" do.) The uniform color-scheme of the original series was already dropped by the time of "ST: The Motion Picture," set just two years after the end of the "five-year mission." By the time the Ferengi and their latinum (with the very brief exception of one "Enterprise" episode), Q and Captain Janeway came along, "100 years" later, there were Starfleet officers who never even knew about the color scheme of yellow for command, blue for sciences and red for engineering, security and other "operations." Dr. Bashir of "Deep Space Nine," for one. Chief O'Brien had to remind him, but then, in that time-travel episode, O'Brien thought one of the shore-leaving ensigns was Kirk! Surely he'd seen a portrait of the great man at the Academy or on the Enterprise-D! But I gotta give you points for remembering the Orion dancing girls! Yvonne Craig, a man could go "bats" over her!

Yeah, I guess mixing elements from all the series´ is a slight minus, and a nitpicking invitation. :-) Luckily for me I can now, thanx to "Enterprise", blame it on the "Temporal cold war". And on a similar note: Stay tuned for the upcoming lets-mix-up-the-timeline-even-worse Enterprise eppy where they encounter The Borg, on Earth, frozen in ice at the Northpole, (yes, it sounds like a "the thing" ripoff) together with debris from the blown-up sphere in ST-First contact. That´ll probably be a field day for us nitpickers. :-)
