The early 80's was a great time to be an Oilers fan, but also a great time to be in a rock band touring Western Canada. I was a member of Edmonton, Alberta based "Looker", which was one of these lucky (most of the time!) pro-touring bands. Throughout the early Oilers heyday, we followed their climb up the rankings wherever we played. In those days, anything 'Oilers' was destined to be a hit... At breakfast one day, it occurred to us that we could probably write and record a song in about 60 minutes that would have a pretty good chance at getting airplay in Edmonton. The lyrics were written before our breakfast tab was even paid and before that hour was up, we had our song on tape. We mailed a copy, along with the words, off to our friend Ted Kennedy, then at the Edmonton 'Album Rock' station "K-97". I believe the song was receiving appreciable airplay by the very next day! This was one of our first 'That Thing You Do - hearing our song on the radio' moments. Michael Gabriel of "Looker"
