The Lyrics

Not exactly funny, I know: but I couldn't resist this paean to a chap who's been described as "the greatest Olympian", a gold medal winner at five consecutive Olympic games: Sir Steve Redgrave
He rowed with blazing paddles
To England's hearty cheers
Winning lots of medals
For years and years... and years
He conquered fours, he conquered eights
He made us shout Hooray!
He rowed with blazing paddle
Gold medals all the way

When our athletes only lost, and winners hard to find
A cry went up 'cross Britain as he crossed the finish line
He did it again four years later on
Rowed through the threshold of pain
He'd done it before, had this man with an oar
And Steven was his name
Yes, Sir Steve is his name

He rowed with blazing paddles
To all our hearty cheers
Consecutive gold medals
Spanning twenty years
He beat the Yanks, he beat the French
He beat 'em all, OK!
He rowed with blazing paddles
Gold medals all the way

Pacing's off a bit here and there, and as you say, not exactly funny - but still, a well-written paean using a very appropriately-chosen original song.

Never heard of the guy, but you conquered fours and you conquered ones!

The parody gets a humor boost just by attaching itself to the OS, and your clever substitutions make it a very good read.
