The Lyrics

Charles Darwin's "On the Origin of Species" sparked a debate that continues to this day between proponents of evolution, defenders of creation, and those who compromise on some sort of middle course. In the 1920's laws were passed to prohibit the teaching of natural selection in the schools. Today, the courts will not allow Genesis to be mentioned in the classroom. As with most controversies, the final result is not left up to science, or objective facts, but to the courts.
Almost human, hairy ape man
Sloping forehead, slightly smaller brain pan
Life was young then, living in the trees
Barely standing upright, looked like chimpanzees

Darwin's Road brings us here
To the stage that we're in
Evolution? or Creation?
The debate starts again

Cavemen gather, game they slaughter
Smelly primates, know not soap and water
Genes defective, fated soon to die
Skeletal reminders, Gorge at Olduvai

Darwin's Road brought us here
To the world, as it is
Revelation or Selection?
"Origin" ?, "Genesis"?

Some hear God's voice as the dawn comes up like thunder
"Let there be..." the way that life began, they will say
The case goes to a judge, I get a feeling that the Scopes Trial was just yesterday
Yesterday

Darwin's Road or the Lord's
Which of these will be taught?
Agitation, litigation
Ever more will be fought

Darwin's Road sparks a trial
And the cost is a sin
Scientific explanation:
Either way, lawyers win

Well put. Liked it a lot! Science and faith. Emotional and analytical. With it in the courts, I wonder who'll get the 'swing' vote.
