The Lyrics

This is the OLDEST parody I will submit to amiright. I wrote it at the height of popularity of the film "Indiana Jones & The Temple of Doom". The extreme violence of the film, particularly the scene referred to in the song below, led to MPAA Film Board adding a new parental guidance rating for movie goers. I am glad I still have this committed to memory--I have lost my original notes for this, and I had to retool a few lines--but now I am able to record it here, for posterity. Incidentally, I submitted a crudely recorded casette tape of my songs to Dr. Demento the year I wrote this (complete with a recreation of the tribal chanting, drumming and screams), and he commented in his returned letter to me that this was one of his favorites of the songs I submitted, even though he couldn't use it on the air. That recording, unfortunately, is lost forever. (BTW--the sixth line of verse 1 is particularly bad, pacing-wise, but that's on purpose...just try to say it REAL fast!)
New York, New York, it is true of what they say
For entertainment, it's the place to be
"Let's say we go out to the new movie playing
At about a quarter to 3?"
We went to see the hard-driving movie
"Indiana Jones And The Temple of Doom"
And now we see what has brought about
This controversial boom

(Chorus)
They say the heart in the Temple is beating
And from all the sounds I believe 'em
From how the audience is heavin'
The heart in the temple is still beating

LA, Hollywood, in the Sunset Strip
To this movie, they go and see
But they had not read the previews!
They are going to be
Complaining about that part, the one with the heart
"That grody scene should be clipped"
They don't think that it's even good art
They say that it's a piece of (powpowpow!)

(Chorus)
Mommy! Aaaaaaagh!

You see Steven Spielberg and George Lucas
In Boston, Baton Rouge, Austin, Seattle, Oklahoma City
Apologizing for all the fracas
Everyone is sick--really getting sick
Why is everybody green?
Well, you brought it upon yourselves
That's why there's PG-13
(doo-doo-doo)

(Chorus)
In Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago! Kansas City!
Ewwww! The heart in the Temple!

Too bad the tape is gone, it would be fun to get to hear this.

Good job! I'm glad that you made fun of my least favorite Indiana Jones movie. That Kate Capshaw character made me want to heave!

Wow!!! This is a 31 year old parody?! Holy crap! Probably the oldest parody that I've seen on this web site. That being said it was decent I like Indiana Jones so I'm giving you props on doing a tribute to that movie but other than that this one wasn't all that good. You left a lot in from the original song and I know that you of all people refuse to do that and even complain when people do that in their own parodies but this is a 31 year old parody so that alone deserves props (Like the beating heart prop from Temple of Doom)

Keeping a 31 year old spoof mostly memorized is impressive in itself. Boy, I really need to watch more movies (Star Wars, Star Trek, LotR, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, etc.) because it seems these movies get a lot of parody attention, and I have no idea what they're talking about. I wish I could say more, but everything in this spoof was over my head, sadly.

You didn't sell your soul to be able to memorize this didn't you? Kalimaaa...

(Artistry) It's impressive how you preserved this mostly by memory! Major kudos. I also noticed a lot of the OS was still in there, which matched pretty well, so I'm not going to harp on that (also considering the age of the parody). You've definitely grown and matured a lot as a writer since this, so it's not up to your usual quality, but it's still good for being 31 years old!

(Artistry) Wow, 31 year-old parody. Clearly you had the talent for spoofing even back then. Pretty decent parody, but the sheer age of it gives it a lot of slack. No betrayal of Shiva here, 555!
