The Lyrics

Gaudy holiday light and decoration displays drive me crazy. A tasteful display is fine, but some people, or entire streets, go to the extreme. Check this street out:

Oy!
Oy!

Down on Oak Street there is brightness
And there a lots of work has been done
I’m telling you, I’m not joshing
And there at night as bright as the sun

Oh no! The crowds will flock down to (this Christmas ballyhoo)
Don’t think it can get brighter
Oh! We got the watts in blue (yes red and yellow too)
And power bills are higher

Too many lights, none are solar
Messing up my satellite feed
Not only that, there is danger
"DON'T GET TOO CLOSE!" signs read

Look out!
You’ll get a shock if you (elect to touch that screw)
Your hair will stand up higher
Oh! I hear a hum now too (electric current juice)
It’s surging through the wires

Oh no! Ohms low! Oh no! Fuse blows!

Oh no! We gonna rename you ("Electric Avenue")
Dark glasses are required
Oh! We gonna rock out to (your Santa Claus revue)
And his all elfin cho-ir

We are so lame in this country
Never can get quite enough
Seeing dis-plays ostentatious
Then say "Let's go green everyone"

Oh no! We gonna mock your views (environment; confused?)
Your lights are not retired?
Oh no! We would be shocked if you (removed a strand or two)
Less energy required!

Oh! Can’t get to sleep
Bright on the street
Lights never shut down
Sparks flying 'round

Oh! It's nine o'clock now view ("Electric Avenue")
And welding shades required
Oh! Just what is that? It's new (a Christmas Kangaroo?)
It flies around on wires

All down the street
Neighbors compete
This is their playground
Bring the power grid down

Oh! Look at the date, it's true (it's April twenty-two!)
Aaand still we see your wires
Hey you gonna take down soon? (or gonna wait till June?)
Oh yeah
You drive away home buyers
Nights look like the daytime (Electric Avenue)
Shocking it ain't right
Burning up the wires (electric gone askew)
Gotta move out of this town to the country...

[fade out]
Now if only all these lights would fade out so I can get some sleep...;-)

You know, this parody should've been a soundtrack for the movie "Deck The Halls" awhile back, because it reminds me of Danny DeVito's character who always puts up those magical Christmas lights and decorations that people could see in space! We also used to go to this house where families of electricians put up loads of Christmas decorations and bright shining lights that would put that whole neighborhood to shame! LOL. It also makes me think of "NL Christmas Vacation" movie as well, which I saw on Christmas. Take some bright, shining Yuletide 5's and a belated holidays to you, blackjack!

One of my favorite "one hit wonder" eighties songs! Powering up some fives for "lighting" up my eyes with this holiday treat!

I like the outdoor lights since the nights are longer than the days at this time of year. I'm putting a bunch of leg lamps on my porch.

2Eagle: LOL on the leg lamps! But be careful, they are Fra-gee-lay. ;-)

TMGLTM, but "You’ll get a shock if you elect to touch that screw/ Your hair will stand up higher" stood out. Here's sending you 555 gigawatts.
