The Lyrics

For the unfamiliar, Smarty Jones was a race horse who had a chance to be the first in 25 years to win the Triple Crown, a series of the three biggest horse races of the season. He won the first two and came in second in the third. Last Friday he announced his retirement. This song is about him.
Man I heard all this hype on
A horse come out of Philly
Making a legit run for the Triple Crown
I saw the Derby one day, and he just blew right past them
(He just blew right past them)
But he was under even money, of course he beat them down

Was a fan of Smarty all the time, Smarty all the time,
Smarty all the time
All this hype on Smarty all the time, Smarty all the time
It's Smarty all the time

Races record time
He runs the race in record time
Derby number nine
Derby number nine
He wore the famous number nine
Smarty all the time

I watched ESPN, just hangin' with my homies
On a bright Saturday, the Belmont Stakes
And then from out of nowhere, who the heck is Birdstone?
Smarty wore himself out at start and just placed (that's it?)

I had ten bucks on Smarty all the time, Smarty all the time,
Smarty all the time
With all the hype on Smarty all the time, Smarty all the time
On his hoof he has a chronic shine, has a chronic shine,
Has a chronic shine
Last week he announced he would retire, 'nounced he would retire

Smarty, Smarty, Smarty, Smarty, Smarty, Smarty, Smarty..
(Was about Smarty all the time)
The race was Smarty all the time
So they put him out, and so they put him out
Smarty all out to stud
They all want Smarty, they all want Smarty now
Fillies wait in line
To get down with Smarty
Fillies wait in line
Smarty all the time

(ABC's) DKTOS - Didn't know that Eddie Murphy ever recorded anything. I watched Beverly Hills Cop on TV last night. Wish I would have seen this earlier, I would have tried to listen for that song in the soundtrack in case it was there. Nice read even though I don't know the original.

DKTOS either, but I like the topic - someone forced into retirement at age 3 and the only things he has to look forward to for the rest of his life are eating, sleeping and providing stud service.

(ABC) "Fillies wait in line / To get down with Smarty" ..... ah, it's a stallion's life, ain't it? I mean, we WISH it was, don't we? Er, ah, I mean, harumph (throat-clearing noises), MINE is, of course, already, harumph harumph.
