The Lyrics

Based on field trips back in junior high
Well it's not far down to go fishing, at least it's not for me
And if the fish will bite I can get a lot, less fun than castnetting
Oh, you get so soaked with this big net, the water's murky, you're stinking

Oh the place is environmental when you're on field trips
And you can see the locks close the boats away, really big sailing ships
But the noise is really just awful, worse than biting chips, clipper ships

Seining, well it just stinks
It's not much fun and you get stinky
But you get all the fish there in the stream
The staff don't care, yippee

Wanna be
Somewhere else just for me
When I'm seining
All caught up, the water's murky
So now I'm wet and all stinky
Won't you just hose me

Seining, well it just stinks
And it's not where you wanted to be
But it's better than class anyway yeah see
And you feel kinda free

Well it's not far back to the center
At least it's not for me
Oh where's the shower to wash this dirt away
Find serenity
Oh, the rainfall can do miracles
Washes you and me
But there's no shower here

Seining, well it just stinks
The water stinks and it feels murky
And you know I'd rather be castnetting
From the pier the net's flinging

In my part of the country, "noodling" for catfish has an inexplicably devoted following... ever heard of it?

Thanks 2Eagle and Fiddlegirl. Never heard of noodling before, how's it done?

Great take on the OS and nicely executed! I also went on those kind of field trips also! 555 hot showers to wash off that icky sea junk off your body!

"Noodling" goes by other names, too, but just call it utterly insane. The idea is that the fisherman wades out into the river to a previously-discovered catfish hole, sticks his (sometimes "her") hand in, and waits for the catfish to come up and latch on. Then, the fisher(person) grabs the catfish by the gills and yanks it up out of the water. Usually, there has to be a team involved, as the fish can be anywhere from 50-60 lbs.

The danger, of course, beyond normal cuts, drowning, and so forth, is that someone could lose a finger or two. Then, too, other critters sometimes make their homes in abandoned catfish holes (alligators, snakes, beavers, etc.) Things can get nasty! For a lot of folks, it's a "family" thing ("Grandad did it, Dad did it, I'm teaching my son", etc.) But as an "extreme" sport, it has gained some popularity.

There are several videos on the internet that you can watch (for a little slice of redneck Yahooland)... just do a Google search. There's also an article about it here: http://www.americanprofile.com/spotlights/article/34228.html

Incredibly original title switch alone is worth 5s. In fact, I think you're in-seine!

Thanks Christie and TT. FG: that sounds insane to me to! Yikes! Thanks for telling me
