I went to the library
Got a book I really liked
Read it till my fingers bled,
It was the summer of sixty fines.

I checked out all the books
Librarians would look at me real hard
They knew I'd never return them
I still don't know where half of them are.

Oh, when I look back now
That summer seemed to be so scary
With all the cash I paid
To that stupid library
I still owe $15.95

When you got a fine to pay
Spent my evenings at the library
Fishing out tons of change!

Sitting on my mama's porch
I think I sat and read forever

To take them back, I never bothered

Like Reader's Digest,
Guideposts, even Time.
I guess they're still somewhere under my bed, under my bed...

And now the times are changin'
I am startin' to take back my books
Sometimes when I go to libraries
I think about the magazines I took
