Look I'm going to have to be one hundred percent honest with you on this one. The pacing was very off throughout most of the song. You have the first line of a couplet paced perfectly, and the next line would be a syllable or two off. You also left out the first chorus completely. It's something I can't overlook. This song isn't hard to pace, so I don't get why there were so many pacing errors. Go back and listen to the song, and look up the lyrics. Sing the song, count the syllables in the lyrics, then compare it to your parody and you'll see how many errors there were. it was a good idea and very funny, but the pacing was not up to par. I'm sorry to be so frank, I know you're knew to the site, and these competitions, and a lot of this will improve as you go, but you're gonna need to step it up a bit. I'm trying to help you improve your writing skills. You got talent, and this definitly isn't up to your potential. Sorry.

Thanks for the criticism and advice! I'll definitely keep it in mind. Although I disagree somewhat on the pacing--unless one is shooting for a 100% strict syllable count (barring any poetic license), I think it flows pretty well according to the lyrics I went by: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/b/bobby_mcferrin/dont_worry_be_happy.html

(Ages) I disagree with Blaydeman aside from the missing chorus, but it paced decently for me. This was exactly my MO in school, and the reason I dropped out of Chemeketa Community College after being threatened with academic suspension... 4-5-5.

(Ages Round 2) This one makes me want to sit down and take a load off...and keep my mind off studying, like physics, math, science, English...oh, boy, look what I went and did!! I went and brought up studying!! I was actually able to pace this song, but you might want to change the line "Without cracking a single book" (8 syllables) to "Without opening a single book", or "Without cracking once a single book" (9 syllables), or something like that, to match the line "You might want to sing it note for note" from the OS, which has 9 syllables. But other wise, you fit every word and Well, anyways, hearing this one made me feel like I want to sit back, relax, have a pina colada, and keep my mind off school. The only things I want to study are cute guys and video games...LOL!! If you want to be stuck on stupid, don't study!! That's a fun message! Well, I'd be stupid not to give you 555's!

I was actually friends with these kind of stoner students back in High School. After graduating however I realized how stupid they were and stopped hanging out with them. This parody totally reminds me of them however.

"Cause when you study, you cannot be Concentrating on the TV" is the greatest two lines I've ever read in a non-studying/procrastination related parody...and I've written two of them. Nice work, although I agree with Matt about the pacing issues.

(Ages) The pacing on this was okay, but funny-wise this just didn't work for me. Like, at all. Your parody just kind of meandered and lacked real focus (don't study because I'm an idiot? Don't study because weed is fun? Don't study because argle fargle blargle?). Maybe it's just me, I dunno, but this parody doesn't seem like your best work to me.

It's definitely the one with the most widely varied response! I think the reasons you cited for not studying are pretty much in line with the slacker mindset I was going for. But I can see how not everyone would find it funny, and I appreciate your comment.

AGES...I thought the pacing was alright...and usually I'm such a pacing whiner...so don't worry about it. Things can always be more polished, but this made me smile, just as it is. :)
