Song Parodies -> "Redshirts"

Original Song Title:

"Fish Heads"

Original Performer:

Barnes & Barnes

Parody Song Title:

"Redshirts"

Parody Written by:

Max Power

The Lyrics

They always die
Redshirts, redshirts, useless useless red shirts
Redshirts, redshirts, kill'em all
Bang!

Redshirts, redshirts, useless useless red shirts
Redshirts, redshirts, kill'em all
Bang!

on a mission, they would bring a redshirt
At a mission, one's rotting in dirt

Redshirts, redshirts, useless useless red shirts
Redshirts, redshirts, kill'em all
Bang!

Find a redshirt whose name isn't Scottie
They won't survive, they are screwed

Redshirts, redshirts, useless useless red shirts
Redshirts, redshirts, kill'em all
Bang!

Invite a redshirt to a toga party,
Once a lightning came down what's that smell

Redshirts, redshirts, useless useless red shirts
Redshirts, redshirts, kill'em all
Bang!

They can't save themselves, they'll just kill themselves
They're not good fighters, they all go boom

Redshirts, redshirts, useless useless red shirts
Redshirts, redshirts, kill'em all
Bang!

Useless useless redshirts are always seen dying before the first
Commercial break and will never made it through in the end.
Yeeaahh

Redshirts, redshirts, useless useless red shirts
Redshirts, redshirts, kill'em all
Bang!

Redshirts, redshirts, useless useless red shirts
Redshirts, redshirts, kill'em all
Bang!

Bang!

Redshirts, redshirts, useless useless red shirts
Redshirts, redshirts, kill'em all
Bang!

Redshirts, redshirts, useless useless red shirts
Redshirts, redshirts, kill'em all
Bang!

( A redshirt stumbles onto a landmine )

* explosion *
If you seen a redshirt and it wasn't Scottie? You'll know what'll happen.

It took me a while to get that your parody was about Star Trek's infamous "Yomans", but it was a good one nevertheless. Stardate: 555

This might be my favorite of yours so far Max, and it adds to the fun of it that the voices in the original leads thought to the Ewoks of Star Wars rather than the redshirts of Star Trek, so voluntarily or not you managed to shoot at two barrells of household SF cannonfodder with one parody, and that means I'll beam you some fives. :-)

Anyone noticed that after I enter this song to the contest some dude came and 1 vote it?

(SOTM) I must admit that I had to Wiki "redshirts", and I think I can appreciate the parody more now. Nice work here.

(SOTM) Didn't get it until I read the comments, and I actually like Star Trek. 544

SOTM - See previous comment. Normally I'd be against repetetive choruses in parodies, but every now and then that surves a purpose, like in this one, where it makes the parody even more funny and corny than the strange original (though that is still a better song than the theme song for the last Trek series). 555.

I'm planning to submit it to fanfiction.net, hopefully it'll get a better feedback than the drag queen parody I put in
McKludge - January 12, 2008 - Report this comment
Geez, I forgot how annoying this OS is, but I used to love the video from the early MTV days. I kinda went "huh?" when I read the "Once a lightning came down what's that smell" line. 555

Who has the time to clean out the cookies just to vote my parody down?

SOTM - Yeah, you knew that if there was an Ensign sent with the away team that he had the life expectency of Michael Richards at a NAACP meeting. nice job

(SOTM Dec 2007) - Amazingly I caught the red-shirt ref before reading the first comment by "Jonathan S." But then I am a "Trek" enthusiast. Interesting and original.

You always know when that the dude you've never seen before lands on the "evil" planet...he's a goner...

(SOTM) Ouch, 25 111's. Grossly undeserved, of course, this one had me giggling. Guess someone really hates Star Trek...
stuart mcarthur - January 30, 2008 - Report this comment
(SOTM) I needed Jonathon S's explanation, but it was amusingly random until then anyway - loved the ending, and "Find a redshirt whose name isn't Scottie" seemed to be one of the randomest lines I'd ever read at the time, Max :-) - 555
Phil Alexander - January 31, 2008 - Report this comment
A bit repetetive.. but then the cannonfodder (sorry, "crew") of the Enterprize seem to get bumped off fairly repeatedly, too.

Hmm... security code "FKN" - only missing an "L" at the end ;-)
Kristof Robertson - January 31, 2008 - Report this comment
(SOTM) I imagine this would grow legs as a recorded work....as others have said, a bit repetitive to read, but fun nonetheless. 555

(SOTM) I um, am not big on Star Trek knowledge, and only knew it was about Star Trek because of the Scottie reference. I strongly disagree with the pacing 1's, but I have to admit Max. . .this one really left me scratching my head, as does the original song.

Pretty good! 5s
Jeff Reuben - January 31, 2008 - Report this comment
I did get it due to the Star Trek reference. Decent
Mikey Squirrel - January 31, 2008 - Report this comment
SOTM- Took me a few verses to figure out this was a Star Trek parody. Very funny, and the I always loved the OS.. not deserving of all those 1's, though.
Matthias - May 01, 2008 - Report this comment
I still have no idea what this is about, but other people apparently do. Even so I don't think the 32 1's is appropriate. (And the OS is really, really, really annoying).
Invisible Boy - May 12, 2008 - Report this comment
Fun to re-visit...oops...I'm wearing a Red(Sox)shirt...Bye !!!

(ABC) I liked your comment about cleaning out the cookies max - yes, I remember this one - odd but strangely compelling! - I also remember loving the OS many years ago
Guy - May 14, 2008 - Report this comment
(ABC-R) See above comment. Still funny and original.

Thought I'd commented here before... I commend you for making a parody of an OS I would have never touched. I like Star Trek, and this was pretty good, given TOS.

I also got tired of the same pathetic reshirt chain voting your parodies 1s - you'll notice the dupe 1s are now gone.
Below Average Dave - May 14, 2008 - Report this comment
3 songs in, 3 songs I'm familiar with. My opinion is about the same. The cookie clearing ones has to be getting annoying, that's why I don't like voting systems. . .
Mikey Squirrel - May 14, 2008 - Report this comment
ABC- Ah, those poor red shirts. I'm impressed that you used such an obscure song to parody, but I thought the choruses got repetitive. Still, good job, Max.
