The Lyrics

Berlin, April-May 1945...
It's surrender time,
Hitler’s dead, so be afraid
Near surrender time
dig anti-tank ditches and fresh graves
‘Cause in the world of Nazis
the loss of ground is no joy
Throw your hands up in the air
at surrender time

But say not a prayer,
For new secret weapons
At surrender time minds not filled
with imagination...
Standing there in all that rubble
it's a harsh world of dread and fear
Where the only victory coming
is the Red Horde’s drunken cheers
And the screaming that is heard there
is NOT the crying of Jews
Well, in Berlin starts the wild rape of women doom

And there won't be an Armistice this surrender time
The greatest blow they'll get in ’45 is strife
Ohh....
In Berlin blood does flow
Volkssturm strikes few blows
Do they know it's surrender time at all?

Hitler knew...
The 1000 year Reich was done
Abandoned them
To the advancing armed Russians
Did they know it was time for the greatest fall?

Comes the end...
Comes the end...

Comes the end,
Let them know it's surrender time again
Comes the end,
Let them know it's surrender time again

(Repeat several times and fade)

I always liked "Do They Know It's Christmas" better than "We Are The World". I get chills just walking to my car. I can't begin to imagine fighting a war in winter. Imagine the Russian soldiers who didn't want to be the last man shot by some desperate 15-year old "Werewolf" as the war ground to a halt. Or the women in the path of drunken Bolsheviks. Your song creates some grim images.

Patrick, thanks for your comment. The lines about secret weapons will probably be overlooked by most here. Hitler still showed the German public the secret weapons in development for final victory and the Berliners were no exception as many believed ultimate victory lay ahead. One should note that the last "Week Show" newsreel is missing; reportedly, it showed an unexplained detonation of a massive bomb in the Baltic from March 1945 that might have been the SS liquid-air bomb or a small mini-nuke. And of course the last message out of Berlin from Goebbels' office was to Tierra del Fuego in S America! Some Germans got out of Berlin in April 1945 but most had to face the Red menace. Berlin only had 50 under-strength divisions + VS + HJ against 220 Soviet divisions and 20,000 guns + 10,000 tanks and 4000 aircraft!!! Btw, the Werwolves operated mostly in the Western sectors. Only a few operated in the East b/c the Soviets confiscated all weapons immediately and the German Army threw theirs down to surrender. The female Werwolf I write about used a knife, rat poison, garrot wire, and a SMG before she was executed in the street. The SMG probably was a taken PPSh-41 or PPS-43 and not a VG from Gustloff...
