The canopy's a mystery that breaks the natural law

To many it seems criminal, the idea it rubs us raw
It's the bafflement of Creation Science, the Fundamentalist's despair
For when we look into the sky, the canopy's not there!

It breaks every natural law, it breaks the law of gravity
It towers over creation and levitates on the air
Now when we look into the sky, the canopy's not there!

You may wonder in amazement, you may sit back in your chair
But I tell you once and once again, the evidence isn't there!

The canopy's a danger that, an intellectual sin
You could show a theologianmake his errors clear to him
Some people think the ancients thought, it was a big bronze dome.
This just a must be what one gets, from those not far from home

You'll hear this stuff from time to time with notions hard to take
And when you think you see clearly, it's really quite opaque

The second day the firmament, a masterpiece of creativity
You may be called to the third heaven; you may meet your Maker there.
But when we look into the sky, the canopy's not there!

It's outrageous, incredible, I don't know, it broke in shards
And its pieces are not found in any museum or your clean backyard.
And was it asteroid collision, what made the earth get rifled?
Continents ripped asunder, fountains of the deep are trifled!
And the greenhouse thing is busted and the heavens won't repair
It's no wonder that this thing a canopy's not there!

There's always a reason or more for why it's not there.
Whatever factors we check out, the Canopy didn't dare!
And they praise that magic act whose climate no one would undergo

Can't fit the situation: the Houdini of times gone by
