I think the US Navy actually used the original as a recruiting video. My brother had 3 sons and one daughter, and all served in the Navy. Not bad for a family from Kansas, about as far away from the ocean as one can be. For a moment, I was trying to sing your parody to "Y.M.C.A.". Not good. My singing, that is.

No, the US Navy was going to use this song and video for recruiting. A video was made with the Village People on a battleship but the Navy brass didn't use any of this stuff, possibly because the Village People are (ahem) *coff coff*, uh.... Anyway, near the end of our boot camp training we were treated to a performance by the Chicago Honey Bears NFL cheerleader team. One of those babes put on a Dixie cup (white sailor hat, it's slang) and strutted her stuff to "In The Navy". Gays weren't officially allowed in the service but they were in it and they served as well as the rest of us.
While I am not an army brat myself, most of the men of my family have served in the Finnish forces and there are several ex-Navy guys too. I once thought about enlisting as well (back in the nineties, when the unemployment in Finland was some 20% - 25%) but then had second thoughts. Fortunately, since INTJs tend to have serious problems with self-important authorities. But my father was a fairly strict skipper yet he taught us all to sail.
I remember the video. Not surprised the Navy brass scrapped it as a recruiting tool. I also recall a Cher video filmed on the deck of a battleship. Great costume for those not of the Village People persuasion.
The Cher video was "If I Could Turn Back Time" in late 1989. It was filmed on a battleship. Cher was around 45 years old. She would add Richie Sanbora of Bon Jovi to her collection of men. Did any of the battleship crew get on her list too?
