The Lyrics

I’ve toured everywhere from Paris to Perth
Meeting so many groupies who are trying to meet me
And while I’m traveling I am always chauffered
I’m a rock and roll monarch, and you’re bourgeoisie
And if you want to spend some time with this Moody Blue
Then there is something that you’re needing to know
So listen
I’m just a swinger with my rock and roll fans

I used to be an intellectual nerd
But now I’m making millions just selling CDs
Nobody listens to the words that I say
They just dance to the music and they smoke PCP
So I decided it was time to try something new
I’ll live the life the people want me to
I’m sayin’
I’m just a swinger with my rock and roll fans

Now do you understand
How the record business is a business
That is only destroying it’s own
And when you see a sequined singer
Who is acting like a swinger
He’s been spoiled by fame
Spoiled by fame

So now I’m playing to a crowd in Ft. Worth
Everybody is cheering, wishing they could be me
But while I’m singing I think “this is absurd”
I’m adored like a hero just ‘cause I stay in key
But then the show comes to an end and just like on cue
The ladies storm the stage and wink a hello
Oh mercy
I’m just a swinger with my rock and roll fans

I’m just a swinger with my rock and roll fans

I’ll never understand
How a rock band singer is the singer
Who is always bombarded by babes
And when you see me after hours
You can tell I’ve got the power
To get nookie all night
Nookie all night

Music took me into a fantasy world
Meeting so many people desiring me
I’m just a singer in a rock and roll band
I’m just a singer in a rock and roll band
Music took me into a fantasy world
Meeting so many people desiring me
I’m just a swinger with my rock and roll fans
We’re all just swingers with our rock and roll fans

Described the "Rock Scene" a lot better than these guys... The Moody Blue Man Group. (By the way this is one of the far and few Moody Blues songs that I can stand listening to so extra kudos for that).

(Artistry) "Smoke PCP" might have been more accurate as "drop LSD" but accuracy, smackuracy. This was a good and funny satire with a killer title sub. Count me as a fan (who does listen to the lyrics =))

(Artistry) Zappa-esque commentary melded onto the Blues. Not bad at all!

(Artistry) Interesting take on the world of rock'n'roll. Nice work!

(art) yeah, a good one Rex - as always a smart and layered write by you - I can't believe you came up with 2 cool solutions to the always-troubling "earth" rhyme that I never clicked onto, e. Perth and Fort Worth - and me being an Aussie just makes it an even greater missed opportunity - 555 - psst, got any sneaky rhymes for "girl"

(Artistry) Rex, this was one of the most clever pieces I've seen by you in the tournament (and considering the amount of points you've amassed, that's saying quite a bit) Turning a song on itself in a way seems to be an art that you are a master of, you've done it in almost every round without being repetitive about it.

adagio: thanks. Matthias: sometimes you are real scary, one of my first thoughts was to try to work in a line about the Moody Blue Man Group. Red Ant: unfortunately, I don't have the experience with the drug culture that you seem to have :-). Agrimorfee: now if I can only get Moon Unit to sing it. bobpie: glad you liked it. stuart: need a rhyme for girl? How 'bout Jones, James Earl? BAD: appreciate it.
