"No Dime, FDR"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

A while back the Republican Party trotted out a proposal to remove President Franklin Delano Roosevelt from the dime and replace him with Ronald Reagan. Beyond the fact the Reagan already has PLENTY of buildings, freeways, monuments and other stuff named after him I think this plan really showed how much the GOP disrespects what Roosevelt stood for and accomplished during his nearly four complete terms in office. Hey, why stop with the dime? Why not just name EVERY FREAKING THING after Reagan? (PS - I think the idea has been shelved for now, but don't be surprised if it pops up again if the Republicans retain control of the Presidency and both houses of Congress this fall.)
(Instrumental intro)

(No dime, Franklin D) History don't mean a thing
(No dime, Franklin D) I really think this stinks
(No dime, Franklin D) Past eroding as we speak
(No dime now for you) Reagan, Reagan, Reagan, Reagan

No dime now for Frankie D
'Cause he's just a memory
In fourth term was when he died
The whole nation did cry
There was not one dry eye
But now, no dime for you
No dime; Wow, that's screwed

(Instrumental break)

(No dime, FDR) This is such a petty thing
(No dime, FDR) What do those *ssholes think?
(No dime, FDR) GOP is galling me
(No dime now for you) so dumb, those crumbs, aren't done, I'm numb, hey

They don't mention World War II
New Deal; you accomplished, too
Put the nation back to work
It don't matter to those jerks
Got no respect for you
They've no respect for you
So no dime now for you

(Instrumental break)

Brought depression to an end
Hope returned, a righteous trend
Always thought of little guy
His programs; very wise
Our spirits, they did rise
He helped us all pull through
The dime was his just due

No dime, no dime, a crime, those slime
Unkind, so snide, don't let - this slide
Keep FDR on the dime
Stand up to GOP, now,
come on, show your some spine
Keep Franklin Delano on the dime
Cause Frankie "D" belongs on the dime
Come on, come on, come on, and show your spine

(Out To FADE)

Reject this insult; let them know your mind
Don't let them pull this kind of crap this time
Keep Roosevelt upon the dime; 'cause FDR belongs on the dime
Tell them "no"; kick some behind...

A dime-and-a-half for you, My Fellow American. Well-said.

What Johnny said. Very patriotic

Lincoln died more tham 150 years ago so why not replace him with Arnold Schwarzennegger on the penny? They have the curious idea that Reagen ended the cold war single handedly even though the Soviet union "jumped the shark" during the '70's but didn't collpase until long after Reagan left office. If they do change the dime "E plurbus unum" should be replaced with "Tear down this wall!".

Johnny D, Dee Range & 2Eagle. Thanks for the support here.

I like Reagan too (see my parody "Tear Down This Wall"), but still agree. It's time to stop naming things after him. If Arnold gets on the penny, he should be shown as the Terminator, and the motto should be "I'll be back".

Damn, Paul, all those Presidential parodies I've done, and you beat me to the best one since Lincoln! Of course, the dimes, they ain't a-changin'. (There's your sequel if you want it.) 2Eagle: You're absolutely right, and take 5 bonus points for knowing about "Jump the Shark." You might want to check out "Jumping O'er the Shark" and "Don't Jump the Shark," two of mine -- I promised a trilogy, but I'm still working on a third.

Alvin & Michael P - Thanks! I grant you each a virtual Roosevelt Dime that shows FDR on the face holding his nose while looking at the Republican Convention on "Grave-el-vision", which you can see on "After-LifeTime", the Cable Network for Dead People.
Tim Hall - September 09, 2004 - Report this comment
FDR is probably the president who guided the United States into the modern era we live in today. Don't forget what he did for this country during one of their worst times ever.
Paul Robinson - September 11, 2004 - Report this comment
100% agree with you, Mr. Hall.

Don't know the original song, but I understand the sentiment 100% and thought your phrasing was funny. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and chip in my triple 5's...
