The Lyrics

oh, the music played by schroeder's a delight
that beagle's out of sight
he's just the best ol' hound
just by chance, i saw this comic...what a pearl
a little red-haired girl
has turned ol' charlie's head around
linus is so pleasin'
lucy is so wise
they're no baseball champions...but they try

in this strip, the grown up folks were seldom seen
and pig pen's never clean
everyone stopped to stare
cause they wouldn't want him in their home
every ballgame, there's no question, they will fall
but yet they have a ball
talk back to lucy if you dare
but give that dog a bone
they will live forever
they won't age a day
even though ol' charlie sculz departed
they will stay

goin' strong...goin' strong, kid charlie brown
goin' strong, kid charlie brown

though this comic was among the highly read
now charlie boy is dead
and no one can take his place
although others might be fine to draw the face
they cannot touch the grace
that schulz gave us every day
there'll be no replacin'
though they must repeat
i still think that comic's pretty neat

goin' strong...goin' strong, kid charlie brown
goin' strong, kid charlie brown

i must 'fess up...i have followed the whole tale
i read it without fail
i'm grinnin' from ear to ear
is ol' charlie the star ?
yes, ol' charlie's the star
i think the beagle beats 'em all
the best by far

goin' strong...goin' strong, kid charlie brown
goin' strong, kid charlie brown

WOW! Alvin, this is FANTASTIC! What a wonderful job you've done here; First off, a generous and beautifully written tribute to Charles Schulz AND you perfectly captured the major characteristics of all the "Peanuts" gang. AND to top it off you absolutely, positively, totally & completely nailed a very, very tough song to pace and made every syllable sound and accent fit "just so" in the right place. So anyway, it wasn't bad...I liked it...5's...

This was very good. One of my favorite "Dan" tunes - and, I agree with Paul - not an easy song to write to. bob
