Heinrich Himmler's history is too extensive to cover here, but I present some odd facts that he did order the stop of mass-slaughter of Jews in January 1945, freed 700 Hungarian Jews to Sweden in exchange for trucks and later released 21,000 Jews to Sweden hoping to get help from the Swedish Red Cross to negotiate with the Western Allies to stop fighting there while German Forces would continue to fight the Soviets. No go. Doenitz dismissed him on May 1, 1945 as traitor and so he and his men tried to switch identies as Special Police attached to an armored unit. Was arrested and moved from camp to camp under the name Heinrich Hitzinger. Was later spotted and identified. He came forward and identified himself. He was stripped of all clothing and cavity searched. Two copper cases were found in his clothes. One held a glass vial while the other was empty. When it came time for an oral examination, Himmler bit down on the missing cyanide capsule. The guards and doctor forced him down and tried to flush his mouth with water. They failed. He died May 23, 1945 before midnight.

It should be noted that when Doenitz became second Fuhrer that he dismissed his SS bodyguards for armed submariners!!!
