Original Song Title:

"The Candy Man"

Original Performer:

Sammy Davis Jr.

Parody Song Title:

"The Morley Man"

Parody Written by:

Warren Baker

The Lyrics

The smoking man. The cancer man. The black lunged SOB. Whatever you want to call him, he's behind every major conspiracy known and unknown to man. He's the archvillian on the X-Files.
Who’s a very sly guy
Smoking up a room
Hides a lot of secrets and an alien or two
The Morley Man
Oh, the Morley Man can
The Morley Man can cause he’s sneaky and a thug
And has his own world view

Who’s the one with no soul
Dupes the F-B-I
See him havin’ fun
When takin’ Mulder for a ride
The Morley Man
The Morley Man can
The Morley Man can cause he’s gotta grander goal to save the world, he’s shrewd

The Morley Man breaks any law he hates,
He’s defiant and malicious
If you snitch about the old man’s wishes,
You’ll be swimmin’ with the fishes

Oh, who could write a novel
Filled with his routines
Documents so out there, the rejections come in reams
The Morley Man
The Morley Man can
The Morley Man can cause he writes about his love to make the world askew

The Morley Man fakes, ev-ee-dence he makes
Falsifying is his mission
Subterfuge is his volition
Writers bring him in for tension

Dallas and the Rat Boy
Things you can’t conceive
Fantasy on steroids that you never could believe
The Morley Man
The Morley Man can
The Morley Man can cause we like the super villain who’s a world class hood

Warren - I like his Forrest Gump version of a box of chocolates. Every great show needs a villian and he did his job well as you have with this parody. Keep 'em coming. I told Adagio about your X-files writes and she is going to look in on them.

Meantime check her's out:

Ya lost me again, Warren! Oh, well, one in a row isn't bad... and what's up with everyone doing nothing but TV shows? Same issue with Bilbopooh -- I think s/he has talent, but they're *all* about TV shows, mostly "Lost". which leaves me --- lost. (Doesn't anyone ever go outside any more? lol.)

btw, no obligation of course, but I *assure* you that yesterday's apparently-lascivious title was a deliberate joke on feelthy-minded readers -- parody was extremely academic, and probably quite dull, actually. No offense taken either way, of course.

Darn it! I should have checked the TT Compendium first! Lost and X-Files were definitely defining moments in TV, and it's understandable that some of us enjoy a life outside the 42" diagonal.
Speaking of size, I'll check out your recent cheekiness this weekend. It's not that I'm offended by parody innuendo; it's just not my preferred humor- so I prefer not to comment. To that end, I hope those who specialize in those delicate arts know it's nothing personal when I don't comment...it's just a preference.
BTW, there's no doubt that Bilbopooh has a gift for phrasing. Her work is definitely a nice addition to the site!

And speaking of going outside, my wife and I went canoeing for the very first time. I swear we hit every single rock on the 10 mile trail. There's nothing 'bed' in a riverbed. Nothing that's soft like a bed, at least. And we certainly found that out the, er, hard way!

Guy- I'll definitely check the parody out this weekend. And I will have another X-Files parody next week. All the best, and thanks for the v/c.
OMR-Told ya! I've had this song playing in my head most of the week.
Mark- Thanks, dude, for getting this ball rolling. I really appreciate the encouragement.
Wild Child- Nothing like a good conspiracy to get the day moving. Thanks so much for the v/c!

I don't know if this is the place to say this, but I posted after commenting 5 parodies about 1 month ago, and only a little over 50 people viewed them. I emailed the owner of this site but got no response. I just feel that everyone should be treated fairly here as far as the songs they write, I treat all of you that way. :-(

Never really got into The X Files...more XXX files...but you've done a good job, here..paces very well..and your notes seem to make it interesting and understandable for non-viewers, like me

I wrote as adagio before and found other X-File parodies http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/stevemiller14.shtml And there is one called "Theef" about the backwoods hex-man Peattie...THAT one is creepy!!. I bought books, DVD and a series about the X-Files. AFW, they should be on sale now...that's what u used to tell me, too....that u never got into it. : D Shame, shame!

Wild Child- Always hard to tell why or why not someone comments on a piece. Lots of variables for me. Mostly, do I know the song, and is it an off beat topic. Can't speak for everyone, though. Just keep writing, and the comments will come. I certainly appreciate your POV.
AFW- Thanks for the v/c. I'm hoping I can put enough info out there to give people a gist of the show. Glad you found it interesting. BTW, really liked your 'Gin' parody today.
