The Lyrics

When it comes to country music (a genre to which I am somewhat indifferent), there is no bigger poser these days than Taylor Swift. You see, the country of yesteryear celebrated America, replete with both laughter and tears. Now, however, there is an incredible amount of posing by so called "country" stars like Kenny Chesney. In any case, no "country star" is more blatantly a mockery of this great American music than Taylor. She is pop, not country. As for this parody, it is my 81st, but first of Rush.
There is trouble out in Nashville;
She is everywhere you see.
Speak, ye fans of the true genre:
Taylor Swift is not country.

The trouble's with the labels
Who ignore what we do know:
They've gone and bastardized the genre
So that they might make lots of dough.
They've forgotten Willie Nelson
And the others who are true
To the tenets of good country
Just to hail those eyes of blue.

Let us then escape from Trashville
Unto Appalachia's peaks.
We will honour country classics,
And educate those who them seek.

(Instrumental)

So let Taylor fake her singing,
But we'll excrete on her claim
That she is involved in country;
Let her then be put to shame!
Then the day will come when we hear
No more songs 'bout Tim McGraw.
And her teenybopper fanbase
Will expose all her flaws.
But for artists like Swift, I likely would be more open to country music.

Taylor Swift *is* a poser, as are all current top-40 "country" artists. Real country died a quiet death circa 1998, with its last torch bearers, Alabama and Brooks & Dunn, throwing in the towel in 2006-07. There are still a few newer artists out there doing real country, like Wayne Hancock, but he never gets any radio play. RIP, country music, and 5s. Well-done as usual.

Andria: YouTube Brad Paisley "Mr Policeman" (from 2007). Good singer/guitarist & good band behind him. Sounds country to me, and with minimal posing!

Wdward and Andria - There is still a war going on within the country music community. I recommend "Murder On Music Row" by George Strait as a perfect illustration. ;D

I love this! Taylor Swift actually sang with Def Leppard on a "country" music awards show, playing Def Leppard songs! She also rapped a T Pain song. (!) Also, I saw Rascal Flats + Carrie Underwood Chicken Spread do "Life In the Fast Lane" (Eagles) on the Net. Country? NOT! I grew up listening to country/rock/pop "crossovers" like Alabama and Eddie Rabbitt and they were truer than these posers and hat acts. R.E.M. and John "Hoosier" Mellencamp are closer to country today. Barf Brooks destroyed the genre and his songs are for the Yups. I'm glad someone else can see that. 5555555

Tonight is the biggest sham of the year in so-called country music--the CMA awards. Jason Aldean, Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert and other posers will be performing their crap and queuing up for undeserved honours that really should go to such artists as Wayne Hancock, an artist Andria mentioned. Anyway, thanks for your feedback; I look forward to filling Amiright with more parodies!

I watched about 20 seconds of the CMA awards, and changed it to the smooth jazz Music Choice channel shortly thereafter, due to being incredibly appalled by just 20 seconds of it. It's weird that they would give awards, admittedly minor ones but still awards, to someone decent like Mac McAnnally, but pass up Wayne the Train, Hank Williams III and similar acts who deserve the "country" title. I enjoy your parodies, Edward, even though I got under your skin that one time with the off-color lawyer joke, and you deserve more recognition here...
