The Lyrics

I wrote this one for a friend of mine who just had his 60th birthday this last Sunday, September 12th, 2004. This track was on the same original Jerry Jeff Walker album that "L.A. Freeway" was on. It's a another really cool original song by Jerry Jeff. Bam's been a good friend of mine for about 35 years now. One thing I've found over time is that you might be able to make new friends, but you can't make any new OLD friends...
Well, if you ever find yourself in Inglewood
Needing a taste of some booze
I'm gonna tell you the name of the man to see
Yeah, here is where you should cruise
He's tending the bar at the Beacon
Seems he's been there as long as the place
He's old Bam Beeler, the bartender
And he'll sure bring a smile to your face

Old Bam B, he's the one to see
Bam the B, booze that is poured real neat
I think all will agree that Bam's drinks sure do please
Old Bam B, drinks that sure do please

Well, Old Bam's been pouring drinks there
Guess about thirty some-odd years
And drinking there you'll swear he treats you square
Never shorts you, that's the truth
Yeah, Bam pours good like he knows he should
You never feel like you've been scammed
When he pours your booze, I tell you true
You'll get all that you paid for, man

Old Bam B, he's the one to see
Bam the B, booze that is poured real neat
I think all will agree that Bam puts us at ease
Old Bam B puts us all at ease

Yeah, the boss is in the back, counting up the gold
Bam is tending bar; folks are saying "Skoal"
Everybody who comes in leaves with a grin
They leave feelin' good and smiling at him
Yeah, old Bam hasn't changed, he makes the place such fun
Yeah, he makes us all feel good, old Bam B, he's the one

(Instrumental break)

Yeah, old Bam's never had his name on the sign
About that he don't give a hoot
He just hopes that you will give back to him
The respect that he gives you
He knows your preferences; what makes you cook
Knows the way that you like all your drinks
Well, I'm pourin' some words that I think he'll like
For this song that I'm gonna sing

Old Bam B, he's the one to see
Bam the B, makes every night a treat
I think all will agree that Bam puts us at ease
Old Bam B, puts us all at ease

Though owner's have changed there's one thing never does
Yeah, Old Bam's the best bartender that ever was

Nice job of making me feel as if I know these people and am part of the scene you skillfully describe.
