Song Parodies -> "Esteemed Writer Blues"

Original Song Title:

"Steamroller"

 (MP3)
Original Performer:

James Taylor

Parody Song Title:

"Esteemed Writer Blues"

Parody Written by:

Paul Robinson

The Lyrics

Now, James Taylor sort of "de-bluesified" his vocal on this OS, perhaps a bit of a parody on overwrought blues singing. But for my version you need to "re-bluesify it" to get the right feel. Lyrics in {brackets} were added as part of the "re-bluesification" process.
[instrumental intro]

Well, I'm an esteemed writer, they say
Some folks; my stuff they do peruse {yeah}

Sometimes and obscene writer lately
Which ChuckyG says he can't use {no, he can't}

Yeah, he rejected some of my stuff
Too many words with "uck"
Too many times those words I did use {I did, yeah}

Well, I'm a sentence-fixer
String out the words and fix them up {Uh-huh, I do}
And I'm a simile twister, they say
I take those words and mix them {Uh-huh, I sure do - I do}

Yeah, when I deconstruct the wording, well
Sometimes I'm left with naught but junk {It's so-oo-oh…yes it is, man}

[During instrumental break]
{Well, don't try to post no obscene stuff}
{Because it won't get by old Chuck - no, it won't}
{I said don't try to post none of that obscene stuff
{Because it will not get by my man, Chuck - uh-uh, I think that sucks}
{So let's get back to the song now}
{I think you folks have had enough of this stuff}

Now folks say this 'bout me lately
"I think this schmoe has lost his mind"
They don't intimidate or sway me
No, when I read, I just don't heed
Don't pay no mind - no, I don't

'Cause if they don't like my writing, well bro
They can just go and kiss my behind

Seen some "1" scores lately
And of bad taste I've been accused
{Yeah, I have…}
{Yes, I have…}
{Yeah…}

Yes, "overwrought blues singing"--the schlock that has redefined R&B to mean the wailings of Beyonce et al. Good parody, BTW.

I had to imagine Elvis' cover. Because if James Taylor is a bluesman, then I'm the center fielder for the Yankees. Yes, James, you Massachusetts native, that was partly at your expense! (The current center fielder is ex-Red Sock Johnny Damon.)

I listened to JTs version, and it made me giggle. Taylor a bluesman? Yeah, right. Your parody, however, was bluesier than Robert Johnson's underwear. Accused of bad taste? I don't believe it....;-) 555
