When a brutal military dictatorship commits genocide against violent Muslim extremists, it's time for the US to take the billion and a half and spend it on something useful here in the States. Same goes for Syria. George Washington warned against entanglements with foreign powers. And he was referring to European states with whom we had a common religion and culture. Can you imagine what he would have thought about alliances with desert bandits and cannibal tribes?
Patrick, our buddying up to dictators like Pinochet, the Shah of Iran, ad nauseum, comes under the heading of Realpolitik. It is the principal reason we are hated by so much of the oppressed world. It's interesting that Realpolitik's recent leading practitioners, Kissinger and Cheney, never saw battle, while Washington dismissed permanent alliances and Eisenhower kept us out of French Indochina.
It's my opinion that $1.5 Billion saved is $1.5 Billion sucked up by the top 1%. Bridges, schools, and Detroit will never see it.
