The Lyrics

The legend lives on from the newscasters on down
Bout' the political fiasco of 2000
The ballot box it is said never gives up a chad
When the election of November gets loony
With a load of election lore and debates that are sure to bore
The candidates waited and worried
CNN FOX, NBC and MSN
Hired "political analysists" early

The election was deprived of normalcy by
The wonderful state of Florida
But Florida palled in comparison with the so-called
(and now infamous) Electoral College
Concluding his term amongst harsh and stern words
Was the President known as Bill Clinton
The Democrats had a man know as Al Gore who loved to shake hands
On the Republican side it was Georgie'

Everything went O.K. until late in the day
When the only state left was Florida
Their votes went to Gore
But the Electoral College went for Bush
At least the election was no longer boring
They couldn't decide as to which guy
Would be the nation's next President
Both Bush and Gore asked for just a couple more
Recounts to make the decision

Well, they got about 20, till' they ran out of money
And then, they called in the Supreme Court
The justices tried but they couldn't decide
Just who Florida had voted for
Everyone got involved
Other states were appalled
Was it really that hard
To count from 1 to 100?

Does any one know where the love of God goes
When politicians turn the minutes to hours?
The tabloids all say that Bush and Gore are gay
But normal people don't really care
Several months went by
But they STILL couldn't deicide
Which person they had elected
One citizen volunteered

To be sworn in that year
But he was turned down
Because the proceedings were too funny
After what seemed like a year
Ol' Georgie appeared and said "Why don't yall just elect me?"
For some reason they did elect him and his grin
That makes him look like a total moron

Three years later
We see 9 Democrats debatin'
About just how dumb George Bush is
He took us to war and destroyed the biggest surplus ever
The deficit is now near 6 trillion
The legend lives on from the newscasters on down
Bout' the election of the year 2000
"The ballot box" they said, "never gives up a chad"
"When the election of November gets loony!"

Good try, but there are problems with pacing, rhyming, spelling and factual accuracy. You are correct that there were 2 years of budget surplus during the Clinton administration and now there are deficits. But the current annual deficit is about $400 billion (which is bad enough), not $6 trillion ($6 trillion is the national debt).
