The Lyrics

There were actual towns like this in the United States in the past, both inside and outside the South.
Come and visit this here town, and I'm sure you'll agree
In the South we're all known for our hospitality
But sundown you'd better take care
If you're black or brown and still around you should beware
Sundown, you'd better get out
We don't want anybody darker hanging about

Well don't get us wrong, you're all welcome when it's day
But when the sky turns dark like you, well, you must go away
Sundown, that's how it must be
We can't have integration late at night, you see
Sometimes you say it's unfair
But that's just the way it is and if you're mad I don't care

It's tradition in this town, that makes it okay
And if we find you here at midnight, then you're sure gonna pay
Sundown, it's best if you leave
Or a punishment that you don't want is what you'll receive
I think that it might be wrong
But it's what we all do in this town so I play along

If we catch you here at night, things will not be good
We might have to notify our friends the Boyz N Da Hoods
Sundown, get out while you can
You won't like it when you come across the local Klan
Sundown, you'd better believe
We don't want your kind around here so you really should leave
Sundown, our unwritten code
Better leave by 6:30 on the northbound road
Sometimes, don't know why it's done
But it's how it's always been so we will stick to our guns

Sad but true. But Obama won Virginia, North Carolina and Florida. And he'll win them again. Things are changing. "And keep your eyes wide, the change won't come again."

I had heard of such ordinances. In the neighborhood where I grew up, everybody got off the street at sundown. Obama travels in one of three helicopters, preceded by two armed gunships. I wonder when the last time was he could go out after sundown.
