First it was a breeze
Mere six knots or so
Though the weather report
told us it would surely grow
And then those cirrus clouds
did appear at western sky
I knew why -
The weather wouldn't remain dry -

And then wind rose
and howled and wailed
We just knew it was the time to reef
the jib and the mainsail
I went to brew us tea
and I put the oilskins on
as those waves they gained more height
and the winds they grew up strong

It was a gale - I sure was pale
out at the high seas
it was the Eight on Beaufort Scale
The sailing was no more just work,
it sure had ceased to be fun
We thought we'd crumble
We thought we'd sure be creamed and done

Oh no, not us!
We did survive
as long as i know how to sail
we know we would stay alive
We did put our boat to heave
and we did the all sails reef
and we did survive
We did survive!

It took all the strength I had
just to climb on deck
and put the second reef
on the mainsail, what a heck
And we put the storm jib on
and we kept ourselves warm
No use to cry -
those waves were some five metres high!

It sure was ride -
it sure was storm
we'd thought we'd capsize or we'd broach
as that nimbostratus formed
and so we felt that freezing rain
and we drifted off our course
But we made with flying colours
I can say "I've been in worse"

Oh no, not us!
We did survive
as long as i know how to sail
we know we would stay alive
We did put our boat to heave
and we did the all sails reef
and we did survive
We did survive!
