The Lyrics

Al Davis remains the only major-league sports owner to leave one city for another, and then come back to the one he left. He moved the Oakland Raiders to Los Angeles in 1982, and moved them back to Oakland in 1995. Here's a musical tribute to that monumental return trip:
L.A. grew too much for the team (Too much for the team, they couldn't make it)
So they're leaving the town they came to know
(They said they're going) Said they're going back to find
(Going back to find) What's left of their world
The town they left a little long ago

They're leaving (leaving) in that moving van to Oakland
(Leaving in the moving van)
They said they're going back (going back to find)
To a better place and time (And when they take that ride)
Oh yes they are (L.A. is back on the losing side)
I'm gonna be with them (I know you will)
In that moving van to Oakland
(Leaving in the moving van to Oakland, woo-hoo!)
I'd rather play in their town (Play in their town)
Than play without them in mine
(This town, it's theirs again, the Raiders are back)

We kept dreaming (dreaming) that the Raiders would win Super Bowls
(Super Bowls, but only once they'd go)
But we sure found out the hard way that dreams don't always come true
(uh-uh, oh no)
So they gave up their hopes and the fans beat up on their black cars
And the team is coming back to the town they once knew
Oh yes they are, they're coming back

They're leaving (leaving) in that moving van to Oakland
(Leaving in the moving van)
They said they're going back (going back to find)
To a better place and time (And when they take that ride)
Oh yes they are (L.A. is back on the losing side)
I'm gonna be with them (I know you will)
In that moving van to Oakland
(Leaving in the moving van to Oakland, woo-hoo!)
I'd rather play in their town (Play in their town)
Than play without them in mine
(This town, it's theirs again, the Raiders are back)

They're leaving (leaving) in that moving van to Oakland
(Leaving in the moving van) Ooh, y'all
They said they're going back (going back to find)
To a better place and time (And when they take that ride)
Oh yes they are (L.A. is back on the losing side)
I'm gonna be with them (I know you will)
In that moving van to Oakland
(Leaving in the moving van to Oakland, woo-hoo!)
I'd rather play in their town (Play in their town)
Than play without them in mine
(This town, it's theirs again, the Raiders are back)

This town, that town, and there's something going on
This town, that town, they want to right a wrong
This town, that town, they long for Oaktown
This town, that town, they can't stay in Tinseltown
They gotta go! They gotta go! They gotta go, Hey!
They gotta go! They gotta go!

Anything that makes the Raiders look bad is good -- which would make the Raiders very, very good, I guess, 'cause they made themselves look bad in 2003 -- but this gets fives on merit.
