Old Otis held his job for years,
He drove for Oaklane Funeral Home
Chauffeur's cap perched on his ears,
Cadillac, all black and chrome..

Looked sort of goulish at the wheel
Got respect - each place he went
More important, couldn't feel
If he'd been the president..

Wife had passed on years ago,
Lived alone, outside of town
Backyard garden, that he'd hoe
When the sun was goin' down..

One day, town kids played a mean trick
Within the coffin, one would hide
Popped the lid, and rose up, quick
Told Otis, "Thank you for the ride!"

He stopped drivin' hearse today,
Somebody else will have the chore
Old Otis freaked and ran away
