Original Song Title:

"New York, New York"

Original Performer:

Frank Sinatra

Parody Song Title:

"Jer sey, Jer sey"

Parody Written by:

Mark Scotti

The Lyrics

OK, NJ got the Superbowl for 2014. Every New York paper has it touted as 'The Superbowl is coming to New York"!!! Must we have a geography class to find out where The Meadowlands is!!! I didn't include the last "repeated stanza". I got this out quick to vent!!
Just gettin' the news, where the Bowl is to play
We are the host for all of it,
Jer sey, Jer sey

The news is quite skewed, it's Meadowlands game
Cross the river you'll come to it,
Jer sey, Jer sey

I want to stand up, to that city for news they reaped
This game we're host of the thrills...
Jersey's the seat

We're proud of the news, change headlines to say
The Game is ours, now part with it,
Back to Jer sey

New York will...., get it's share, just make it...., quite aware
Before we sue, New York.....New York
New York.......New York

When I was 17... it was a very good year... And when I was 16 the family took a vacation to Disney World, flying from Newark to Orlando. And the NFL columnist for the Orlando Sentinel wrote, "It's funny how these East Rutherford teams keep winding up on television. It must be some town. (Well, it is where Dick Vitale is from, bay-bee!) But even Hoboken native Sinatra gave us short shrift. Of course, if the game is cold, and neither the Giants nor the Jets make it, New Yorkers will say it was in New Jersey. But if the weather is okay, or either the Giants or the Jets win it, they'll say it was in New York. I just hope that Governors Cory Booker and Andrew Cuomo enjoy themselves. And keep ex-Mayor Mike Bloomberg out of the skyboxes so he freezes his tuchis off.

If they can play the Superbowl outdoors in New Jersey in the middle of winter, then there is still hope for Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, someday. Though none for the Chiefs, of course. I wonder if they will broadcast the commercials on the jumbo screen during the game. One advantage: too cold for "wardrobe malfunctions".

In New York they hate Jersey. It's about time somebody wrote this.

I echo all comments above! This is more like it, since I'm a Jersey girl myself. Yep, like Mike P, I'm from Jersey and proud of it. Thanks for honoring our beloved Garden State! And wish NJ luck in advance for the Superbowl 2014. Of course, 555!

Great song Jersey Boy! All we need now is for the Giants and Jets to put "NJ" on their helmets.

SOTM: When I saw the title, I was afraid that this was going to be about Jersey Shore...and thankfully, you didn't stoop so low for a parody. Excellent work!

'Shore" nice of you to comment, Abbott. Thanks!

I would actually have preferred this to be a mockery of that MTV show "Jersey Shore" because I'm not a fan of news nor sports parodies. Sorry Mark, normally love your stuff but this wasn't my cup of tea.
Mark Scotti - June 11, 2010 - Report this comment
That's ok, Matthias. A Jersey superbowl is not going to be a LOT of people's cup of tea. But it happened to be the right forum for me to rant(as a jersey boy....)

(SOTM) I was very confused here. Not only do I not pay attention to the news, let alone the sports news, the parody didn't really explain itself. Didn't help that I'm pretty sure that this is incomplete (having parodied this song myself). Venting or not, this one could've done with a bit more time put into it to really articulate your rage.

(SOTM) Does seem a tad short, but on a positive note--as a St. Louis kid--its always nice to see a Superbowl outside of Florida, Arizona, California, New York or some other place that ALWAYS gets it. . .

In my opinion, a tad too short for a comp, and there's already tons of Frank Sinatra parodies here, but still, don't get me wrong. It was a great parody, even though I'm not the biggest football fan. 555

Thanks, DJ. It was my only parody last month, so I threw it in. Check out the video production...
