The Lyrics

OK, so it wasn't exactly a day trip.. and it wasn't exactly a lovely time either.. and I'm a little bit surprised this is the first Fiddler's Dram parody on here (mainly because I only really know the OS because of Jasper Carrott's "Day Trip To Blackpool", one that's a lot more fun that the original).. but I found this in my unfinished archive, last looked at many years ago with only a couple of lines written, and had to finish it off.
Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Mordor
Frodo could bring
Sauron's magical ring
To throw it into Mount Doom, you know
And on the way there
We were frequently scared
And we needed help from Gollum
Hiding from Sauron, black riders and orcs
And the ring went down

Do you recall
The thrill of it all
As we hid out from the Nazgul
With Aragorn
Son of Arathorn
At the Prancing Pony in Bree, you know
So impolite,
Frodo vanished from sight
As he tripped and slipped the ring on
Stabbed by Witch-King
'cause he didn't have Sting
And the ring went down

Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Mordor
At Rivendell
Frodo got well
And Bilbo gave him a mithril shirt
An odd sort of thing
When he offered the ring
To elven queen Galadriel
Council of Elrond
So the Fellowship formed
And the ring went down

Do you recall when
We spoke "Friend" and en-
-tered in the mines of Moria
But Balin was dead,
No welcome instead
Some goblins with a cave troll, you know
With goblins all round,
They ran from a sound
It turns out was a balrog
But Gandalf stood fast,
Saying "you shall not pass"
But then he went down

Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Mordor
But then Boromir
He came over queer
And tried to take Frodo's ring, you know
Orcs all attacked
Frodo got the ring back
And scarpered 'cross Anduin
Crossing Dead Marshes and passes and caves
Till the ring went down

Frodo and Sam
Finally made Gollum scram
After (just) escaping Shelob
The baleful grandeur
Of Barad-Dur
Made Frodo's burden so hard, you know
Up there with the ring
He could not throw it in
Would've made the whole trip pointless
But Gollum he bit
Off the finger and slipped
Then the ring went down

Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Mordor
Frodo prevailed
Where Isildur failed
The Eye of Sauron came crashing down
Returning, they fly
On the eagles, so why
Could they not have flown there?
But then, I'd've thought,
The book would've been short
'til the ring went down

'til the ring
Went
Down

Epic Production, perfectly formed.
The Fellowship of the Rhyme bestows
5 Towers——which, come to think of it,
has a nice ring to it!

It was an epic trip and this parody worth a trip.

Pacing on the video I found doesnt quite match what you did, but since I am assuming this is a traditional tune, and for all of the effort you made into this epic retelling of the saga, I gotta let that slide. I happen to be watching the Extended Version at home over these past couple days, so reading this was extra fun right now! 555 Precious points.

[SOTM] A nice outing to wrap up sotm for the year.

The fellowship of the SOTM might return one day, for now and for end credits this was precious.

This isn't to say you did a bad job (you didn't, it was well done), however I know less than nothing about LoTR or the OS, so everything was a bit over my head. Nice job, but it was lost on me.

Thanks, guys

Agrimorfee - the pacing is probably closer to Jasper Carrott's parody to this song, though I wasn't trying to match that exactly either, I was playing it on the guitar & singing along rather than using the OS. There's one or two places it doesn't trip off the tongue quite as I'd like, but it's singable at the right sort of event.

Abbott - the books *really* are worth reading. Good preparation for reading A Song of Ice and Fire, a series which is much longer and much more fun.

(SOTM) One parody to rule them all, one parody to finish the speech because I've only seen the LotR films once so I can't recall it off-hand. Um...yeah, fantastic parody, 555!

I'm in the same boat as T-Cop. I only seen all of the Lord of the Rings films about once although I have met Sean Astin who plays Sam in the series so that's pretty cool. Impressive work although I was a bit lost.

(SOTM) I've seen the movies several times, so am by no means an expert on the subject, but I still enjoyed this. The LOR franchise are some of my favorite films, so anyhting that brings me back to Middle Earth is good in my book.
